Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Let's talk about the weather! :-) and gas ....
By Dramamamma on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 02:53 pm:

Things have been pretty heavy around here so thought I'd throw out a change of subject and see who would join me?!?! lol....

Here in Houston it's been in the 80's for the most part, we are supposed to get a cold front which will bring us rain this afternoon and then cool off to a cool 75 degrees! I'm READY READY READY for some cooler weather although I'm looking forward to cooler than just the 75.

Also... gas prices.... I saw gas for $1.96 yesterday!! I couldn't believe it! Anyone else gotten that low, I was shocked!

By Jtsmom on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:07 pm:

I agree!!!
It is chilly in the mornings here, but in the mid 70's during the day. I love this weather. I am not looking forward to winter though. I paid $2.09 today for gas. It's weird to think that that price makes me happy, I remember when I was 18 or 20 the gas was .99 cents!!
I hope it doesn't go back up anytime soon.

By Kaye on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:11 pm:

I saw it for 2.01 today a little further south, pretty exciting!

Christy, is life back to normal for you post hurricane?

We still have work that needs done. You can't find a roofer to save your life. Dad and I fixed a lot of fence while he was visiting. I still have painting and sheetrock work to do. My neighbors are in the same boat. Several folks in seabrook are coming close to having repairs completed though.

By Vicki on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:12 pm:

Today is the 4th day of 70 plus degree weather here in Ohio. Supposed to turn colder starting tomorrow and possible snow flurries over the weekend. LOL

By Vicki on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:13 pm:

Oops, I forgot to add I saw gas for 1.99 yesterday.

By Mrs_B on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:29 pm:

It's nice and warm here. It gets pretty chilly at night so I make DH turn on the heater before he goes to work so the house is warm for the kids and I when we get up. We're going to Vegas for the weekend, and surprisingly the weather is not much different there.

Oh and gas... I think it was $2.49 yesterday, or right around there. I can fill up my car for under $35. DH traded in his truck for a new Yukon XL, and surprisingly, the Yukon gets better gas mileage than his truck! It takes about $85 to fill up right now.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:36 pm:

Raining now. Cold tomorrow. We had three beautiful days, but now it's going to be more November-like.

$2.29 for gas.

By Marcia on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:43 pm:

We had snow 2 weeks ago, and have been wearing capris and t-shirts this week. It's beautiful, and the kind of weather I could deal with all winter!!

Our gas has really dropped, too!! :)

By Tarable on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 03:55 pm:

It has been and will be in the low 70s for the rest of the week/weekend. Nice since we can have the windows open and no need for heat at night.

I got gas yesterday for 1.97.

By Jackie on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 04:05 pm:

We paid $1.92 yesterday for gas

By Annie2 on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 04:19 pm:

The weather here is a bit chilly for me in the am, about 52 degrees but then warms up to high 70s by the afternoon. I do not like that it is dark here so early.
The last few nights I have told my kids it was bed time...they all look at me and reply "mom, it's only 7:30!". lol
Gas prices are down to $2.19.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 04:20 pm:

We've got the same stuff going on as Vicki :)

I had to go out and enjoy this weather today. I did that by working on the playground at the school and then cutting the grass. At least I was outside! :)

By Crystal915 on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 05:51 pm:

In the 80s here in South FL, and gas is at $2.33. Some friends back in KS told me gas is under $2 there, but I told them I'll take my more expensive gas, because they are having very cold weather!! LOL

By Emily7 on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 06:40 pm:

When I was out yesterday regular unleaded was $1.91.
Our weather is 30's and snow, my sister an hour and a half away is having a blizzard, so no school for my nephews.

By Shellyg on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 08:07 pm:

It was in the 80's today in the beach cities of Los Angeles. Now at five its 60 and a little chilly. Gas is 2.56 I hope we follow the "under 2 buck" trend!

By Dramamamma on Thursday, November 6, 2008 - 10:51 pm:

Kaye, we are pretty much back to normal here. There are a few places near us that still have debris in the yard and people are still having roofs replaced but for us life is back to normal.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 06:00 am:

We are expecting a drop in the temps. We have been in the 70's during the day all this past week and 40's at night. We are expecting rain today, tomorrow, and a rain snow mix Sunday. So the temps will be dropping considerably through out the weekend.

Gas here was 1.91, for unleaded, last night.

By Ginny~moderator on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 12:12 pm:

Gas is $2.35 at my local station (the day after I paid $2.49!!). The weather today is drizzly and IN THE MID TO HIGH 60s. In November! In Pennsylvania! I wore a jacket this morning and was too warm when driving, even with the car window open and moving at a fair clip.

By Melanie on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 02:11 pm:

It's a beautiful day in the 70's here. The gas stations around me are hovering in the $2.70 zone. But I paid $2.35 at Costco a couple days ago! Needless to say, with a difference like that, there are constant lines at Costco. :)

By Tayjar on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 02:58 pm:

Gas is $1.97 and it's 45 outside with a chance of snow flurries. We're in Central Illinois.

By Paulas on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 08:01 pm:

Can't remember what the gas is over in Calais, Maine but here in Canada it's 91 cents a litre or about$3.64 gallon. Wow...$1.97!!!!!wouldn't that be sweet!

By Crystal915 on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 12:23 pm:

Paula, it was about $3.50 a gallon last month, so believe me, we feel your pain!!!

By Colette on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 04:26 pm:

2.11 per gallon for the van, 2.31 per for the acura, it's nice to fill the tanks for less than $40!

it's been in the 60's here. I love it, have all the windows open.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 04:33 pm:

Down to $2.21 at one gas station/$2.23 at others.

$2.99/gallon for diesel

Temps only in the 40's today and it was lightly raining at times. It's just cold and damp outside. It must be just warm enough, to keep the house warm, because I've hardly heard the furnace running. I'm bundled up in a sweatshirt and should have some slippers on. My toes are cold.

By Paulas on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 04:35 pm:

Crystal...yes I know but when it was 3.50 a gallon there it was $1.39 a litre here...or about $5.20!

By Crystal915 on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 05:25 pm:

YIKES!!!! Why is gas so much more expensive there?

By Bobbie~moderatr on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 06:54 pm:

Gas it 1.75 a gallon here.

By Paulas on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 07:59 am:

Crystal...we Canadians ask ourselves that question on a daily basis. It's even that expensive in oil rich Alberta! i think it must be the taxes.

Luckily for me, I only live 25 minutes from Maine so we usually get our gas there. It's still about $2.70 a galloon there but it's coming down.

By Colette on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 08:00 am:

I couldn't believe how much gas was in Canada when we went up this past summer. I will make sure I fill up at the border next year.

By Karen~admin on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 09:09 am:

Paid $2.19 yesterday..........last time I filled up I paid $3.49! Well, the tank last a month since I'd had surgery and wasn't really driving, but that's a huge decrease.

Weather - had 5 wonderful days last week where I could leave the house *open*, then had to use the AC for a couple of days. This morning the house is open again. 70 would be the perfect year-round daytime temp for moi! :)

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 03:15 pm:

No change in gas prices, but we saw snow flurries on the way home from church. My Firefox weather thingie says it's only 30 degrees outside. I don't think we expect any kind of accumulation from the snow, though and it wasn't snowing hard enough to have amounted to anything.

Wow, Karen, it's still that warm there? I'm coming down. Our weather is very normal for November, though.

By Crystal915 on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 05:09 pm:

Dawn, you can head down here, it's in the low to mid-80s!! I couldn't handle WI in the winter... it was BEAUTIFUL in August, perfect for an outdoor concert (the show in KS and Dallas the years prior had been so hot I nearly fainted) but I wouldn't want to deal with the winters there!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 10:14 pm:

We have a discount card for gas through our grocery store and I just (still shaking my head) paid 1.30 a gallon for gas, it took all of 25 to fill up my Durango... No joke.. 25 dollars to fill up my Durango, the get gas light was on, so a nearly empty.. The regular price was 1.70 a gallon.

Any way, winter hit today just as perdicted... BRRRR and sleet..

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 9, 2008 - 10:57 pm:

Yeap, flurries thoughout the day, and not the temp is about 27-29. My flowers are still blooming, but they might not be, in the morning! Darn it, my geraniums are so pretty!

By Crystal915 on Monday, November 10, 2008 - 12:39 am:

OMG, Bobbie, I would KILL for that! It's still about $45 to fill up my Durango with the gas light on. Of course, that's down from $80, so I can't complain that much!
