Need quick advise--WWYD?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Need quick advise--WWYD?
By Cat on Monday, November 3, 2008 - 08:27 am:

Robin had a fever last night and chills--100.8F. This morning the chills are gone but the fever is still 100.9F. He's supposed to start his new school today. He has NO other symptoms and nothing hurts. Would you keep him home? I have about an hour before his bus is supposed to come. Dh thinks he should go to school. WWYD?

I know at our school when the kids have a fever they send them home, due to the fact that there is something causing the fever.
IMO I would keep him home.
My kids started out 2 weeks ago with a fever and ended up with a terrible stomach bug :(

I would keep him home also.

the reality is, he is sick. He won't be at his best, he might be lethargic and difficult. Not really the first impression you want them to have of your son.

I'm going to keep him home. He's having a terrible time getting up this morning, says he's tired. He went to bed at 7:30 last night AND we gained an hour yesterday so obviously he needs the sleep. He said he feels okay, but this new school is a 20 minute drive and I don't want to have to make it with four kids, one of whom today is her first day.

Thanx for chiming in. Great advise, as always. :)

Do you think it's stress related, because of the school change? Stress can do crazy things to you.

By Dana on Monday, November 3, 2008 - 09:08 am:

I would keep him home too. It may always get worse once at school and you just need to bring him home anyway. All the other moms will thank you for not bringing it to class as well. Sounds like his body is fighting it off, whatever it is.

Hope the new school goes well!

I would keep him home. Fever is one thing for me that is a no brainer for staying home. There is something going on if a fever is present. He won't feel his best and he is likely contagious with the fever present. Our school has a 24 hour rule for fevers, you should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

How is he tonight?

By Cat on Monday, November 3, 2008 - 09:12 pm:

He's fine tonight. He was a bit tired today, but his fever was gone by 9am and he never had any other symptoms. He'll be going to school tomorrow. Poor kid will have to get up early. School doesn't start until 8 but his bus comes at 6:45am! It could be worse. He won't get home until about 3:45pm. It'll be a long day tomorrow. Much longer than he's used to. Should be an interesting night tomorrow! :)

By Dana on Monday, November 3, 2008 - 09:21 pm:

Oh wow! I thought we had it bad having to be on the bus at 7am for a 7:45 start time. How far away is the school?

By Cat on Monday, November 3, 2008 - 09:44 pm:

The school's about 20 minutes, but it's a special placement so the bus goes to several stops. It's also curb-to-curb, meaning there are no "general" bus stops. It goes to each kids house. He can take his MP3 on the bus. Maybe he'll sleep.

Glad he is feeling better!! Best of luck to him on his 1st day tomorrow!

Hope his day goes well...

Thanx, Gals. His bus was here at 6:45 this morning. We actually saw it coming up the street at 6:40. She took 5 minutes to come two blocks! I think she was a bit lost. :) A lot of these streets have similar names (lots of Royal Somethings! lol). She came right to our driveway and I heard her say, "Hi, Robin!" as he got on. I hope he has a good day.

I hope he has a good day too and that he's feeling better :)
