Positive thoughts

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Positive thoughts
By Sunny on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 12:46 pm:

If you can spare them.

I found a lump in my neck. My doctor thinks it's my thyroid and ordered an ultrasound. He also referred me to the endocrinologist. I've had the ultrasound and see the endo doc tomorrow. I'm hoping to have a better idea of what's going on then, but I'm guessing that he will then send me for blood work and whatever else and I still won't know. I can't help being worried and a little scared (okay, a lot scared!) and researching it on the Internet doesn't help. I hate not knowing what's going on inside my body! Thanks.

positive thoughts from me ...

Positive thought from me too!

Try not doing research until you find out exactly what it is (if it even is anything) You will have yourself a wreck with the what ifs and maybes! Sometimes the internet is not a good thing!!

I had a lump in my throat a few years ago. Turned out it was a swollen lymp node due to a sinus infection that I didn't know I had. My mom did have thyroid troubles and once she started taking her meds, the lump went away.

Keeping you in my thoughts...

That would be scary, and impossible to stop looking for answers. So I hope you can find some peace while you wait for the tests. And what great news above that hers was just a lymph node.

How scary for you. I will be sending positive thoughts your way. Let us know when you find out your results. We will be anxiouly waiting!

Oh...and stay off the internet! It will only scare you more!

I agree, stay off the internet, and, I agree, it's difficult if not impossible. If you must do research on the internet, stick to the sites that are .edu or recognized medical centers, like the Mayo clinic. My aunt, age 93, has, and has had for over 20 years, what is called a goiter, which is a thyroid related lump. Tayjar's mom's experience is fairly common - low thyroid levels can produce a swelling or lump, and thyroid medication almost always resolves the condition.

You are seeing the right kind of specialist and they are doing the right kind of tests. The waiting is absolute h*ll, I know. I had problems with fairly severe vertigo several years ago, and was told to get an ultrasound to "rule out a brain tumor". Two weeks wait for the ultrasound and another two weeks for the appointment to discuss the results - four weeks of absolutely paralyzing anxiety. Oh - I was suffering the after-effects of a moderate to mildly severe ear infection.

I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Positive thoughts for you!!!

I had a lump in my throat and it turned out to be my thyroids. I've been taking daily synthroid for many many years now with no issues at all. Hope you can remain at peace until the results are in and keep positive.

Any word yet? Still sending positive thoughts your way.

Sorry for not posting earlier. Thanks to all you for your positive thoughts.

The doctor thinks my thyroid is/was inflamed and it caused a small hemorrhage. I am having further testing later this week when I go in for a Fine Needle Aspiration. My doctor may drain it at that time depending on what they find. I am trusting that his diagnosis is accurate. I'm not really looking forward to this procedure, but I'm a lot calmer now than I was before! :)
