Insurance Company Annoyance (Vent)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2008: Insurance Company Annoyance (Vent)

(I know i'm post happy today, bear with me! LOL)

Most of you know I posted on here about a month ago with my dilemma about my neighbor hitting my car (parked) and denying it although the measurements fit perfectly and she was parked by me the night before.

I called my insurance company (Mercury) on Friday for any sort of update because last I heard was a few weeks ago where they were going to try to contact my neighbor and her insurance company to resolve the issue. The lady handling my claim wasn't available so I left a message, and she was supposed to call back within 4 business hours. No returned call. Monday comes around and I call again. No answer then either so I left another message. Today I was going to call again but I was going to speak with anyone in claims I could get a hold of to get an update. Before I called I checked my mail. Of course, I have a letter from Mercury, dated on Monday, the last day I left a message. Instead of CALLING me back, she sends a letter in the mail??? How impersonal is that? It really annoys me. On top of it all, there are things stated in the letter that I need further clarification about. (The case is still open and unresolved and there are still a few things I need to obtain for them.) So, now what? Do I call once again, to leave another message just to end up with another impersonal letter in the mail? Seriously! I just switched to this company a few months ago after the previous company I was with was raising their rates. I may be saving $50/month but at what rate? They can't even promise a simple phone call?

That would be so frustrating. If you were to switch companies do you have to wait until this is resolved since it's still open? I think in general no one seems to be able to pick up a phone anymore, pretty ironic since cell phones seem to be surgically attached.

Call again, leave a message, and say specifically - please do not e-mail me. I want to speak with a person because your e-mail is not clear.

I suggest, however, that one reason they e-mail is because they want to have a record.

Or you could e-mail her back and say "your e-mail wasn't clear. When you say "quote", do you mean (offer alternatives). When you say "quote", I understand that to mean (what you think it means). Is that what you mean? I would really prefer that you call me so that we can go over my questions relatively quickly - going back and forth by e-mail just slows things down, especially as I do not check my email on a daily basis.

Ginny- It was actually a letter sent by the post office.

There were two things they needed from me 1) To have my vehicle inspected and 2) To obtain a copy of the police report for them. Which is fine, I have no problem doing those but MY reason for calling them was to find out if they got an admission of guilt from my neighbor or had talked to her insurance company. Basically, WHAT have they been doing for this last month? How far are they getting? When can I get my car fixed? (I haven't yet in case they needed to inspect it, and they do.)

It's just frustrating. I mean, how long did it take her to compose, type, print and mail out that letter? Probably more time than a phone call would have taken. I'm going to call again tomorrow.

Oh, the letter was undoubtedly a form letter - no time at all. Whether the adjuster will tell you what is happening with your neighbor or, more likely, your neighbor's insurance company, is a good question, but I'd be surprised if she answers it. She isn't going to want to risk you talking to your neighbor about it. The police report will be a key element - what did it say about the accident? Given that there were no actual witnesses, the only thing either insurance company has to go on is the police report. Your neighbor is probably going to continue to deny it because she doesn't want a bad mark with her insurance company.
