Buying appliances

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2008: Buying appliances

We are thinking of doing some cross border shopping for our major applicances (fridge, stove, over the range microwave and dishwasher). Where in the US (store names) would we find the best deals?

By Annie2 on Sunday, June 29, 2008 - 07:00 pm:

I would say Sears, Lowe's or Home Depot.

I just did some major research on this (we just bought a new washer/dryer and are thinking about replacing all the kitchen appliances). I compared prices at Sears, Lowe's, Home Depot and some of the local dealers. We chose to go with Lowe's. The prices were significantly lower, free delivery (you paid and got a rebate) and had take-away of the old appliances! Sears was the highest.

Do some research... even online, and compare prices.

Shop online: us-appliance, qha appliances, you'll get far better deals than you would with any retail store. I purchased a Monogram 48" gas range top with a grill, a kitchenaid dishwasher and trash compactor and an Icon 30" double oven online. US appliance and qha both had extended service plans. I saved $1000 on my cooktop over the ExpoDesign/Home Depot price when you took into consideration no tax and free shipping. Also saved a ton on the other appliances.
I did get my fridge and other dishwasher from Sears, but they were floor models and I got great deals on them.
Just do your homework. Take down the model numbers of the appliances you are interested in and do a search at some of the major appliance websites. The two I mentioned above I have direct experience with. US-appliance was great from order to delivery. qha will be fine I'm sure. Ordering was great and I do not anticipate any problems with delivery, but I'll update.
Good luck,
Ame

Thanks for the information everyone. DH and I will spend some time online tonight after the kiddos are in bed doing some comparisons. I'm thinking delivery isn't an option though since we are in Canada.

A bunch of places will deliver to Canada. Most of the appliance deliveries are motor freight.

How expensive is delivery to Canada?

I favor Sears when they have sales. When we bought 3 new appliances in January, they were already on sale, and we got an additional 20% rebate on top of that, which virtually amounted to getting one of the appliances for free.
