Big things on the horizon-maybe-again

I am nervous to even post this because I don't want to make the hope go away if that makes any sense, lol! We have had a major streak of bad luck financially. Dh has 2 promising job interviews this week. If either one of these pan out it will be a major positive change for us. Salary, benefits. I can't imagine being able to pay the bills, put some in the bank, fix the car and start fixing up the house a little. Dh usually puts in way more than 40 hours a week and I've either had tiny babies, a job, school or a combo of those, yet we barely make it. Not from poor planning it's just not enough $$$. We've had periods of stability but not the kind this much more money could bring. It's twice as much as we've ever had coming in. I'm trying not to let myself get too hopeful so I'm not crazy in despair if neither happen, but it's keeping me going.

Any news yet?????

By Rayelle on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 08:35 am:

Well, one place is somewhere he interviewed before about a year ago but the hours were just crazy. They called out of the blue last week to see if he would be interested in hearing about their new policies that are more family friendly. He goes there at 1 today. The other he interviewed for about 2 weeks ago. The lady loved him but couldn't hire him right then because our credit isn't exactly perfect. I wish companies didn't look at that as a character thing, sometimes people legitimately fall on hard times and this makes it that much harder to turn things around. So, she told him to go take the drug test so she could fight for him. She told him if he passed the job was his. Of course, that wasn't a problem but the ad for the job went out while waiting for the results so she had to interview the other applicants. She told him yesterday that she would know Friday. I don't know. I heard that in our state they can't send you for a drug test without offering you a job but I'm sure there's a way out of that if they want.

My stomach has been doing flip flops! I'm trying not to let myself get too excited but then that's depressing. After I get things caught up and some money in the bank this living room is getting an over haul lol! Thanks for rooting for us!

I really hate the credit thing, too. I really don't see that it should be an issue. We have a lot of medical bills on our credit that we are paying monthly on. The hospitals around here won't accept low monthly payments, so even if you are paying on them, they will still send them to credit agencies, who turn around and allow you to keep paying what you have been with no issues.

My husband has medical insurance for the family through work, but I had to go to several facilities around the eastern part of the U.S. and had some extremely expensive tests and treatments done. That 20% adds up fast.

Good luck with the jobs. Maybe his interview will be enough to get him over the credit thing.

I hear you on the credit thing too.. Hopefully, something gives... fingers crossed he hears something today.

By Texannie on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 12:54 pm:

I have found if you up front tell them that you have credit issues and why, generally they overlook it.

By Rayelle on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 08:46 pm:

Yes, Texannie I think that is why she is going to tell her boss he is the guy. She told him they look at it like a lower score means you are more likely to steal? They do a criminal check too I think that would be a more accurate thing for that. Plus if they pull the report it goes along with everything he said. So, we'll see what they have to say tomorrow. :)

However, I already have some GREAT news!!! The other place he interviewed for before, they originally had a 5 day, 11 hours a day work week, sometimes more. That makes it pretty impossible to do anything else like school. It also made the money not so great either. I mean you'd make good money at any low wage job if you're there every waking hour. Now they have a 4 day 11 hr day work week. The benefits are GREAT!!! The pay is great!! We wouldn't be rich but here's the difference it would be to us, he would make in 2 days what he makes in a week right now. The job is his!!!!:):) We're just waiting until tomorrow to see what the other place says so we can weigh the options. This will probably win out though because he can do a mon, wed, fri, sat week to go to class tues/thurs.

Ladies, I can get the car fixed soon! I can put money back in the emergency fund! I can save for a couch or lots of other things. It doesn't seem like reality yet. I've been so worried. I'm a little behind on some bills but now I can fix it! Throughout my adult life I've had to go on the feast or famine paychecks that come from commission and crappy if any benefits. Oh and he gets 2 week paid vacation after 1 year! I'll feel more settled once he actually starts :) Oh I am excited. :)

By Crystal915 on Friday, May 30, 2008 - 01:11 am:

Just a thought... if you have GOOD credit you could be a thief as well, you might have gotten good credit by paying things off with ill gotten gains!! I hate the way credit affects everything, I have bad credit thanks to divorce, and some medical bills. I have a hard time getting anyone to rent to me. I need a place to live for me and the kids, no matter how bad my credit might be, so what are people supposed to do!? Sorry for the rant, it's a pet peeve of mine!!

I'm glad things are looking up!!!!

By Vicki on Friday, May 30, 2008 - 07:27 am:

I am happy things are looking up for you guys!

I don't want to be a downer at all, but keep in mind that unless he signs some kind of contract, they could change the hours again after he starts the job. I would hate to see that happen after he gets all signed up for classes and pays for them thinking his schedule is one way and have them change it to the way it was 2 years ago. Just keep that in mind if it gets to where you are deciding between the 2 jobs.

By Texannie on Friday, May 30, 2008 - 08:09 am:

Great news!!

By Happynerdmom on Friday, May 30, 2008 - 08:11 am:

That's great, Rayelle! I know that feeling of relief when things start to turn around. :)

By Rayelle on Friday, May 30, 2008 - 03:59 pm:

Oh Vicki I know! :) I wish ANY job would just be what they say it's going to be. It's like the job he has now. For one thing, it was supposed to be full time and he hasn't always gotten 40 hours. The commission program doesn't happen to work at all the way they said. To top it off the district manager told him she hired him as assistant manager to get ceritifed and take over for the manager because she is a consistent screw up and that is a salaried, beneifted postition. The district manager got fired before he was certified and the new district manager knows some of the issues they've had with the current manager but wants to give her the benefit of the doubt. It was one thing to take the job thinking it be that little pay for about 2 months, it's been about 6 now.

Still haven't heard about the other job, at least I haven't yet. I never thought I'd be excited to pay bills but I am looking forward to it!
