Economic Stimulus Check

Woohoo! May 5th for us!

By Jackie on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 03:14 pm:

So those who expect the money, did you all receive a letter in the mail to tell you,you will get the money?
See I am confused. According to the online thing, we are "suppose" to get the money. Yet, I have heard several people who have gotten letters stating how much they will get. We have not got any letters. I am hoping that doenst mean we are not eligible?
Anybody know anything about this?

By Dramamamma on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 03:19 pm:

and my question is I got my taxes done at HR Block and got that advance payment and both my payments came in the form of a paper check. I guess that means that I'm in the "paper check" group, right?

By Dandjmom on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 03:34 pm:

Jackie,
me and my aunts got a letter but neither of our letters sated point blank the exact amount that we would receive, but instead it started what hte rebates where /for and when they would start to coming out,as well as it stated how much you could get up too, 600 for individual, 1200 for married couples, 300 for single, and 300 for each child age 17 and under at the end of December 07.

So my guess is as good as yours, so I just say that I would wait and see I don't know I've heard what you have heard. And then I heard that if you get a letter at all that you would get a rebate and I figured I would, until my cousin called me yesterday who is un employeed and did not file a return at all this year, to tell me that she received a letter form IRS about the rebates yesterday. So again your guess is as good as mines. I'm just going to take it as a wait and see thing. I can handle waiting and seeing , I'm still waiting for my son's fathers regular income tax to get to me for back child support, those I do know are coming to me IRS and state has confirmend that but I have to wait 4 to 6 weeks. So I hope that you and I both and every one of my other on-line buddies here get a rebate. We could all use some money.

By Jackie on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 05:09 pm:

Yes, it would be nice to get some money back. We filed our taxes and got our income tax money back already. According to the website and that online calculator, there is no reason why we shouldnt. I am just concerned since we received no letter we wont get it for some reason?

By Marie on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 05:58 pm:

If you haven't alreay go to Irs.gov and there is a link for the rebate and it will ask you questions from your 2007 tax return so have them with you and it will tell you how much you will get back. We recieved the letter but it didn't have an amount but according to the goverment site we get back almost 2000. so try that

By Dawnk777 on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 06:35 pm:

The calculator says we should get $1500, $1200 for Gary and me, and $300 for Emily. Sarah is too old.

By Vicki on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 06:49 pm:

I have no idea if we are getting one or not. I would think we should, but I won't count on it until it is in the bank. LOL We do the direct deposit though and it is a good thing. If we get one, it should be May 12th instead of July 4th!

By Jackie on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 07:46 pm:

I did go to the line and put in our info. It said "We probably" will get it. What the heck does that mean. It didnt deny us. We dont make that much money, gosh I can't believe we wouldnt get it.I just keep thinking since we didnt get any sort of letter, we wont be getting any money.

By Breann on Friday, April 25, 2008 - 09:15 pm:

Hmm, I guess we'll get ours as a paper check. According to that schedule, we won't get it until the end of June.
The IRS has used our direct deposit information in the past, but not for the past 2 years so I'm assuming it won't go in that way. Though it would be nice if it did, lol.

We got a generic letter a couple of months back. It said we will be getting something.

By Brandy on Saturday, April 26, 2008 - 08:01 am:

May 5th for us too = )

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 09:56 pm:

If you're married, which social are they going by if you file jointly?

By Crystal915 on Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 10:05 pm:

The primary, probably your husband's.

By Reds9298 on Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 11:20 pm:

By April 28th for us, so we'll see if it's here tomorrow! I think ours will be direct deposited since our refund was this year. Ditto on it being the primary, which for us is DH.

We did get a letter some weeks back to notify us of the refund, but not the specific amount on the letter, although I know what it will be.

By Yjja123 on Monday, April 28, 2008 - 02:34 pm:

I noticed it was direct deposited in our bank today :)
We received $1800 it is all going towards our upcoming cruise.

By Brandy on Monday, April 28, 2008 - 03:12 pm:

woohoo Yvonne = )

By Crystal915 on Monday, April 28, 2008 - 05:44 pm:

Anyone else in the first batch seen their rebate yet? I called the IRS today about my direct deposit information, and noticed the recording said a letter would go out telling you the exact amount you would receive about a week before the rebates were mailed out, but I only received a letter a few weeks ago saying I was eligible. I'm curious now.

By Yjja123 on Monday, April 28, 2008 - 10:33 pm:

I never got a letter with the exact amount.

By Kaye on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 08:27 am:

We were due for ours yesterday. But no money yet. We direct deposited and got the generic letter several weeks ago. So I wonder what the deal is. I assume they go by my hubbys ss and not mine.

By Luvn29 on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 10:24 am:

Well, by something new they have put out, they are giving themselves a week to get them in starting with the date they said. So initially we were supposed to have ours in by May 5, but now it is saying they will start depositing them on May 5, but will have that series complete by May 9. So you should get the deposit by Friday.

By Dandjmom on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 11:56 am:

Reds9298 did you alls come yesterday, since you think they used dh ssn. And Kaye thats probaley what it is they are going by your husbands ssn and not yours. I'm in that last series so I'm expecting mines on the 12th of May, looking for it on the 9th of May ( since it's not customary for IRS to issue refund on Monday's, but at the same tiem I guess this is nto considered a regular refund)will let you all know when I get it.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 12:05 pm:

Guessing it might have helped if "they" actually had thought this all the way out before they announced they would be doing it and before they actually started sending out the money. Supposed to be a stimulus check, how are you to plan out spending it if you don't have a clear answer of when you will be getting it or a clear answer on how much it will be if you do get it. Can't very well, plan a vacation around a maybe, or a major purchase around a might be. However, this would be typical of the way things work.

With the job market in our area as bad as it is, many people I have spoken to, are planning to save it or pay off credit cards, as a cushion just in case. I know of three families that are planning to pay off the balances on their heating bills from the winter. Our gas bill was nearly double from what it was last year.

Curious to see if this all plays out as the stimulus "they" planned it to be?.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 12:39 pm:

I found an article stating they were sending out the first batch through out this week, none will be issued on Thursday, and 5 million will be issued Friday, those are for the ones that are to be received by 2 May 2008. So, I ammsuming that those of you who are in the first set of SS numbers (and yes, it's probably oyur husband unless you filed with you as the first name listed) it's going to be in by Friday.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 03:02 pm:

One of my email friends already got hers. We are supposed to be in the second batch. We haven't gotten the "letter" yet, though. I would be expecting that soon.

By Luvn29 on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 04:52 pm:

I personally think the letter is such a waste of money and trees! I'll know how much I have and when as soon as it hits my bank account!

As far as being able to plan out spending it and wishing they would have thought it through before announcing it...I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. This is $1800 I wasn't expecting so I will take it when and how they decide to give it to me! And at least we are getting it sooner than they expected rather than later which is what I expected to happen!

Since we aren't moving till next year, I will be using it to purchase a new computer before school starts this summer. I desperately need one, and this couldn't come at a better time! I'll also be using it to buy the family's summer clothes that are needed. Both of my kids had a growth spurt and none of last year's shorts fit them this year!

The rest will be used on small bills that need to be paid...

By Tarable on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 05:31 pm:

My boss already got hers, and she never got a letter saying she might be getting one. It just showed up in her account. I think that will happen to a lot of people.

I will be using it to pay for surgery.. woo hoo.. I guess I will be stimulating my surgeon's wallet...:)

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 05:53 pm:

We got ours direct deposited today.

As soon as we saw it, we spent it. :( :)

We were waiting for the check, and now we finally got to purchase our Disney TIckets!!!

By Vicki on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - 07:42 pm:

I agree Adena!! I will know that I get it when and if it hits my account! I have no idea if we are getting it or not. I am thinking we should, but I would never count on it until it is in my hands. I am sure we will find something to spend it on!! That never seems to be a problem!!

By Hol on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 04:56 am:

We haven't seen anything yet, and we are in the May 5th group. We also never got a letter.

By Karen~admin on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 06:15 am:

Neither have we..............ours was supposed to be direct deposited.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 07:45 am:

Nothing here, either! :( We were slated to get ours on May 9th, according to the original schedule. I just checked and it hasn't been added to our account as of 6:45 CDT, this morning.

By Kaye on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 08:15 am:

We were in the first batch, it arrived on May2. On may 4th I got a letter letting me know how much it was :)

By Reds9298 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 09:50 am:

Me too, Kaye! :)

By Luvn29 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 09:51 am:

Well, we were in the May 5 group and ours was just deposited this morning! Yay! And we never got a letter, so don't worry about that! They are taking a full work week to make all of the deposits for that group. There are supposed to be tons deposited tomorrow.

By Dandjmom on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 03:29 pm:

According the the IRS website. There schedule doesn't show May 5th , but rather May 9th for deposits . I checked my cousin's using there where is my rebate? link and it said that she would get it tomorrow. I will let you all know if that is true. And by the way she has not received a letter yet either.

By Angellew on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 04:40 pm:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow!

By Emily7 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 05:01 pm:

Mine was deposited last night. I was told on Monday by my bank that it would be deposted at 6pm on the 7th.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 05:31 pm:

This won't link, so copy and paste.

http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=181665,00.html

Where's My Stimulus Payment? They will ask a couple of questions and tell you how much the check is for and when it is supposed to be deposited.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 05:35 pm:

click on...

Okay now, you've checked the schedule and you're ready to find out Where's My Stimulus Payment?

about mid way down the page, then it will open a new page with the questions. Primary SS number, filing status and number of dependents. It will then go to the next page that tells you how much the return is, with a break down of why and when it will be deposited.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 07:08 pm:

Where's My Stimulus Payment?

(If you put a "\" in front of each of the commas, that helps it work.)

I don't think we deducted our preparation fees, from the refund. Gary paid him with a check.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 10:59 pm:

Been at this so long, I can't hardly remember a time I wasn't a member of this board and I am still learning new things every day.. Thanks Dawn.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 11:43 pm:

You're welcome!

By Angellew on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 09:05 am:

By Dawnk777 on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 02:57 pm:

Got mine this morning, too!

By Tink on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 03:35 pm:

Does anyone know what steps should be taken if we should have received one by today and haven't? I haven't found any kind of helpline or website that I can use to find a solution. The link above just says that they can't help me.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 04:00 pm:

Me here
So, it says that they are giving themselves a week to deposit after the expected date. Have you called your bank?

By Tink on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 06:21 pm:

Thanks, Bobbie. When I try to access Where's my refund, it just says that my information is not available and to try back at a later date, with no other information. I have spoken with my bank and was told that all rebates received had been deposited this morning.

By Crystal915 on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 07:47 pm:

Cori, are you going off your social, or Rob's? I'm in the last group, and I get the same message that my deposit information is not yet available.

By Tink on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 08:06 pm:

I get that message no matter whose SS# or # of exemptions I input. My # would have put us in the first group and Rob's in the 2nd. I'm going to wait until the 14th (which I think is crap) but I'll make some calls if nothing has shown up until then. One comment on one website did mention that if the fees for your refund were taken out of your refund, you could be receiving a paper check. I'll be ticked off if that's the case since it means I wait another month but if it really were true, I think I'd hear more about it.

By Sunny on Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 12:35 pm:

According to the payment schedule, we should have received it by yesterday. Nothing. Every time I check the IRS website I get a message saying that they are unable to provide the information. I even tried calling the number listed, but got a recording telling me that due to heavy call volume, I needed to call back another time.

I'm wondering if ours is delayed because we filed an amended return. (We did choose direct deposit on our original return.) I have no choice but to wait and see what happens next week and try calling again if we still haven't received it. It would have been so nice to have had it by now, though. :(

By Hol on Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 03:11 pm:

Isn't it supposed to be $1200.00 for a couple filing jointly, $300.00 for each dependent child, and $600.00 for individuals?

Well, my DS Shawn got only $300.00 deposited into his checking account and he files his own return. We cannot claim him as a dependent anymore because he is not in school. Shouldn't he have received $600.00?

I looked at our (DH and me) checking acoount today where we had our original tax refund deposited, and we only received $600.00. I thought that it would be $1200.00 for the two of us, and $300.00 for DS Mike, since we still claimed him as dependent this year?

I am very confused.

By Hol on Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 03:39 pm:

I just went to the website that Dawn posted and did the formula and it says that we are getting $900.00, but only $600.00 was depositied in our account. I guess that we won't be getting anything for Mike since he is 19. Does that mean that he will get something since he did file a return, even though we claimed him as a dependent because he was still in high school for half the year, until he graduated?

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 09:35 pm:

We got $1500

$1200 for filing jointly and $300 for Emily. Sarah was too old and she won't be getting it, since she hasn't had a job yet, so hasn't had to file a return.

By Crystal915 on Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 10:32 pm:

Individuals get from $300-600 depending on income, married filing jointly can get $600-1200, also income based. And Mike would have had to make over the minimum amount in order to qualify to receive his own. HTH!
