Disney Dining??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2008: Disney Dining??
By Bellajoe on Thursday, April 10, 2008 - 09:10 am:

We are going to Disney in 57 days! Can you tell I'm excited?

We are going with my sister and her family. A total of 5 kids and 4 adults. We plan to eat out the first night we are there and the last night we are there. I know that we for sure plan to go to the Rainforest Cafe one of those nights. But we are not sure what other restaurant to go to. Any suggestions? We will not be doing a Character Dining for dinner (too $$$$) we are doing that for breakfast one morning.

What would be a good restaurant to go to with the kids who range from 4-9 yr old? That actually has good food?
TIA!!

We really like Mama Melrose at Disney Hollywood Studios. We like Tony's Town Square at Magic Kingdom. We also like Liberty Tree Tavern. It is a character meal at night, but they have a regular lunch. If you go to allears.net they have menus of all the restaurants. I don't really care for any place at Animal Kingdom, except for Rainforest Cafe. We have never eaten dinner at Epcot, so I can't recommend any place there. wdwinfo.com has discussion boards, and they have a restaurant section, people give reviews which might be helpful.

Almost all of our dinners have been at Epcot. Love the Garden Grill there, especially for family meals. Family-style dining, all you can eat, good home cooking. They just keep bringing you platters when you're ready - corn bread, stuffing, chicken, veggies, rice - something for everyone really. I would definitely go back there with kids. You get a lot of food for the price. Plus the restaurant revolves and has cool scenes, along with classic characters who will ALL come to your table and talk with you throughout. Farmer Mickey & Minnie, Pluto, Chip & Dale, etc. It's a really great family place.

Also for family I'm thinking the restaurant in Morocco (I think it's called the Marakesh) is delicious with the stak kabobs and you'll see belly dancing and a Moroccan band if you think you all might enjoy that.

For family, I give high recommendations for Garden Grill though. It's located inside of a larger building that has several kid-friendly activities (like a mini-chef deal, a couple of boat rides,etc.). I can't remember what all because we've not yet been there with kids, LOL! I just remember that was a cool place at Epcot for kids and the Garden Grill was yummy!

The Garden grill is in the "Land" pavillion. It is where the new soarin' ride is. We had an ice cream social there a few years ago and it was very nice.

Character breakfasts were always what we did. We went to chef mickey's the first time, this last time we did the breakfast at the grand flordian, the food was yummy, the characers are alice in wonderland, mary poppins, pooh, tigger, and the mad hatter.

Places we ate...boy did we eat (we just went spring break). We did sit down meals at sci fi drive in, burger was yummy, atmosphere was nice. We ate at the coral reef, this was just okay, we ate at the grand floridian "narcoosies" this place was really great, not kid friendly though. In epcot we at in Japan at the hibachi place (tempayani or something like that). We did counter serice at pizza planet at HWS, actually very good pizza, we ate at flame tree bbq at animal kindgom, it was very nice.

Last trip we ate at prime time diner and really like it.

We did the dining plan, I won't do it again, we ate too much and spent a lot of time thinking and planing for meals. We did get our moneys worth though.

We are doing the character breakfast at Chef Mickey's on one of the days.

I just saw the sci fi theatre thing, it looked cute and I think we are doing Hollywood studios on our last day, so that would work out well. I went to the Garden Grill with my parents when i was probably 12. I remember the revolving restaurant...but I don't remember the food. That's an idea. The kids would think it was cool that the place was moving. Japan sounds nice for us adults, but the kids probably wouldn't be to thrilled about it. Morocco sounds cool too, although again the kids probably wouldn't eat there.
I'll check out the websites thae Debbie suggested.

Thanks!

I don't know if there is a restaurant in Disney that has "bad" food, but we weren't crazy about the Rainforest Cafe. Maybe they've improved since we were there?

Our favorite restaurants in Disney are Cape May Cafe (in Beach Club resort), Le Cellier (in the Canada pavilion), Chef Mickey's (in Contemporary resort) and on our last trip we really enjoyed the Whispering Canyon Cafe (in Wilderness Lodge resort) and Ohana's (at the Polynesian resort). Yes, we do seem to like the resort restaurants, don't we? We did eat at Garden Grill and enjoyed that, too.

Have a good time and I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever restaurant you choose. :)
