Yearbook Help

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2008: Yearbook Help
By Melanie on Monday, March 31, 2008 - 01:42 pm:

Our kid's elementary school has a tradition of putting baby pics of the graduating 6th grade class in the yearbook. With only 10 sixth graders this year, this appeared to be a pretty easy task.
But I've run into a roadblock and am not sure the best way to handle it. One of the girls is in a foster home. We have been unable to locate any baby (or even early childhood)pics of her. The girl suggested finding a random baby pic on the internet that looks like her and put that in as her. Something about that feels wrong. But, on the other hand, she is trying so hard to be like the other kids, and not having her picture in there will just highlight that her circumstances are very different.
What do you think???

I don't think finding a pic of a random baby is the right thing to do.
I will try to think of a suggestion for you. What a sad story, to not have any pictures of yourself as a baby or a small child, how sad.

I also don't know about the taking a picture off the internet and using it as hers. I think that is wrong or against some law. Since there is only ten kids this year( my gosh thats a little amount) can you and if there any others on the year book committee or the principal change the rules just this year so that she can be included. Say maybe they use a picture of there best 6th grade moment etc., a trip they went on, a play they where in,a fun day at school. Or maybe another them, maybe a pic of them and the person they have grown the closet to over the years or this pat year, a picture of them and here favorite teacher, teacher they will miss the most. Just a thought.

I don't think it's wrong. I think it should be her decision. Will she feel worse about it afterwards? Perhaps....but who can predict the future? Is there an art teacher at the school who could try and draw a baby pic of her based on her current looks?

That is so sad. I like the art teacher idea and Dandjmom's idea.

That is sad! If she needs a baby picture, I am willing to give one of my children's.
I understand how she would simply want to fit in.
Please give the girl a great big hug from me!

Problem Solved!!!

I just heard from her foster Dad and they were able to get a picture!!! I can't tell you how relieved I am.

Thank you for all the creative suggestions and a special thank you to Yvonne for even offering to send a picture. That was so unbelievably kind of you to offer to help this child like that. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

What wonderful news!

Great to hear that, Melanie! I was going to say, taking someone's picture off the internet and using it without permission doesn't sound like a good idea to me, but it's a moot point now!
