If its not one thing--I'm such a bad mommy!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2008: If its not one thing--I'm such a bad mommy!

Okay, I may officially get the "Bad Mommy of the Year" award. Remember a couple years ago when I knocked one of Randy's teeth out??? Well, now I may have broken his toe! Yes, karate was involved--again. We were at class last night and while sparring I back into him and stepped on his pinky toe (we were sparring different people at the same time--we normally have 20 people sparring at once, in pairs). Now it's all swollen and bruised down into his foot. But with that little toe there's nothing anyone can do. He did soak it in epson (sp) salts last night, but it didn't seem to help. And to top it off, *gasp* I made him go to school today!!! He'll tell you I'm the worst mom in the world for just that! lol I did call our chiropractor to try and get him in for at least an x-ray, but she hasn't called me back. He'll be home from school in about 45 minutes. I wonder how swollen and colorful it is now??? Bad, bad mommy.

LOL, Cat. You are just the meanest mom around, sending your poor ds to school!

By My2girlygirls on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 - 05:30 pm:

Hey don't feel bad... I sent my DD to school with a broken arm. She "fell" off of a neighbor's bunkbed one night and when she came home she cried for a while and it looked a bit swollen but I thought she was fine. I wrapped it in an ace bandage and put her to bed. When she got up in the morning it looked a bit swollen but I sent her to school anyway. I felt so bad that I called the ped. office and made an appt. and went and got her a few hours later and took her and they did X-rays and sure enough it was broken. All of us moms have those moments that we wish we could take back :-)

Oh, Sarah. Thanx for trying to make me feel better, but some of us moms have more of those moments than others! lol

Debbie, he kept trying to reason with me this mornings saying, "We start spring break next week and we're not doing anything this week anyway!" I told him that wasn't a good enough excuse. Yep, I'm a mean one! lol

He's home now and walking okay (with a bit of a limp). Just think how mean I'll be tomorrow when I send him to school again!

You broke his toe and sent him to school??? How could you???

Griff broke his collar bone and didn't get a single day off from school. His teacher called the day after he fell and said, "He was playing tag and he looks like he is in a lot of pain. You should probably come get him." In my defense, he DID feel good enough to play tag, so why wouldn't I send him to school???? Oh yeah, because his collar bone was BROKEN. Oops. Live and learn. LOL. I know now that if he says something hurts, even if there are no tears, an x-ray is probably in order.

But seriously, they do nothing for a broken pinky toe. Even if your mom is the one who broke it. That is just good for YEARS of guilt. LOL. Good luck with that.

Okay, since it's just "the pinky toe" I'll let you off the hook that you made him go to school.

(I type this as I have my foot propped up due to 2 broken toes--thought it was three toes, but with swelling down, it is just 2).

Hopefully, I not making a similar mistake with DD. She keeps complaining about her knee (and pretty much every other part of her body) hurting. I attribute it to growing pains. She has grown 2 full inches since Feb 14.

Thanks for the post. At least I know I am not alone in the abuse of children. I broke my dd- 14, toe last week. She is not easy to wake in the morning. She keeps the messiest room on the planet. I woke her and tormented her until she got out of bed. (She says I shoved her- hard) I was nudging her along to the bedroom door. She stumbled over the junk on her floor caught her foot on a purse strap, caught her toe and fell. The toe is purple. Both of my daughters tell me I will NEVER win the mother of the year award.

LOL Deneen - TG is quite the drama queen, isn't she?

Cat, you win! LOL

Ouch! I moved a door, too abruptly, when Sarah was little and made a mark on her face. I felt bad, then, too.

By Crystal915 on Thursday, March 20, 2008 - 01:04 pm:

Awww Cat, how could you!? *eg* I haven't caused any serious injuries to my children, Shane does enough of that on her own, but I still feel bad about Madison when she broke her leg. My ex had gotten her our of bed that morning, and since she was ALWAYS crying in the morning, he didn't think much of it, carried her to the bathroom to go potty. It wasn't until she tried to get off the potty and she fell and let out the most blood-curdling scream that we knew it was serious. At that point, one leg was an inch shorter than it's buddy, and an ambulance was on the way. :( Guilt is a horrible thing!! Of course, there is nothing to be done for a broken toe except buddy-taping it, so I would have sent him to school as well. Try to get a script for the pain if it's bothering him, and tell him that one day he can tell his children how MEAN Grandma was because she sent him to school with a broken foot. (Added exaggeration will occur, of course!)

By Cat on Thursday, March 20, 2008 - 04:22 pm:

He didn't fuss this morning about going to school. I guess he figured if I sent him yesterday, I'd send him again today! lol He's still complaining it hurts, but that doesn't keep him from playing with his friends and doing drills with the football team at school yesterday. It's still swollen and bruised. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Crystal, he'll tell his kids how their horrible and mean grandma not only broke his toe and then made him go to school, but that she also knocked out one of his teeth and used to beat him up regularly (sparring, remember?). Yep, someday my kid's going to write a book.
