Dandruff help

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2008: Dandruff help
By Mommyof5 on Thursday, March 6, 2008 - 10:54 pm:

My dd has a terrible case of dry scalp/dandruff. She uses Head & shoulders but it doesn't seem to be working very well at all. She has black hair and so it is very noticable and she is self consious about it. Does anybody have any ideas on what might work better than Head & SHoulders?

On GMA a few days ago they said to steep a bag of green tea in a cup overnight and put it on your scalp the next morning in the shower. After a few times the dandruff should be gone forever.

Thanks! We will try that this weekend.

Neutragena T-Gel or Neutragena T-Sal may work.

Does she wash her own hair? Is it really bad all over or mostly on the top of her head?

One reason I ask is because one time my dd had what I thought was dandruff and when I took her to get a hair cut, they saw it and told her to make sure she was rinsing her hair better. It was mostly on the top back part of her head. They said they see it a lot in kids who are washing their own hair! It was in the place that you put your hands when you first put the shampoo on your head. It seems they concentrate the shampoo there and then don't get it worked out enough and there is a glob of it there and they don't rinse it well enough.

If you think it might be that, let me know and I will tell you what they told her to do. It cleared up very fast!

If you don't think it could be that, I have heard good things about Neutragena T gel also!!

I didn't read the responses, i don't have much time right now, but someone on here told me to use T-SAL for my ds when he had this problem and it worked like a gem!

Also, my 11 year old niece had horribly oily hair and it took my sister forever to figure out why. Long story short...she was not using shampoo, she was using conditioner to wash her hair. I know, 'she's 11 didn't she read the bottle?' apparently not.

I guess now her hair is much cleaner and prettier looking :) now that she is using shampoo.
