Who makes up the sewer and trash bill for the city?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Who makes up the sewer and trash bill for the city?

Because we got ours the other day and it was addressed only to me! Yep, apparently I am responsible for paying the bill - not DH, whose name is also on the deed - just me. When I showed DH the bill, he said, 'Well, I'm off the hook! Make sure you pay it on time.' Ha! :)

Well I'm the only one listed on mine, too, because I am the one who called and hired the service. Isn't that how it works where you are? My trash company has no clue who is listed on the deed. I could have put both our names on the bill if I wanted, but I figured why complicate things? It's hard enough making sure people get the correct info when it's over the phone. As it is, they do have my name spelled wrong, LOL!

Depends partly on whether it is a municipal/city/county service or a private service. I pay my trash pickup charges through the annual real estate tax bill from my township; the same for sewer charges. The gas/electric bill is in my name only, but the water bill comes to my (deceased) mother and me because I'd have to go to their office in person to change the name on the bill and I'm not going to spend the time.

I know you know there are more important things to worry about, but it is a bit of light humor in the day.

An explanation might help, huh? :)

Our trash and sewer bill is combined and issued by the city (or, in our case, the borough) and is payable to them. The property owner(s) is/are responsible and the information, I always assumed, was obtained from the real estate records. We have lived in this house for 12 years and this was the first time that the bill was in my name only.

I've always paid it in person, and by check, so they may be going by that. I guess I should have him sign the check this time so they'll send the bill to him next year! :)

Ginny, all of the utilities are in my name and...all the other bills in Dh's name, I pay!

He's got a pretty good gig going here, doesn't he? LOL

Trash is part of our property taxes and probably why WI has high property taxes. Sewer is part of the water bill, along with fire protection and is paid every three months. I think DH's name is on our bills.

My DH's name is on everything and mine on nothing.. He always says that if I leave him he is going to be in a bind.. Because I can walk away without any bills and he will have too many.. WOO HOO!!! hehehehe

My name is in about half of the utility bills, we have our own credit cards. One of our utilities is still in my maiden name (10 years too late!) but it's a pain to go change it so it hasn't happened, LOL. Ditto Kate - here it's who signs up for the service.

I usually pay for things when we're out and about, so my joke to him is that I have to 'pay' for everything!

Our house is in both our names. Our bills, are about 1/2 in dh's name, and 1/2 in mine. It just depended on who called and set up the service.
