Question for Dave Ramsey people

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Question for Dave Ramsey people
By Reds9298 on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 - 04:22 pm:

I've heard so many positive things from so many people over the last few years, I'm interested in reading a Dave Ramsey book and comparing it to what we are already doing. Our library NEVER has ANY of his books and the wait list is forever. I'd like to buy one but am not sure which one is the best to start with?
Thanks!:)

When my DH heard about him, he went to Amazon & bought 'The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Success'. We loved the book & have put it to the test in our house. We have already begun paying things off!!! Good luck! :)

We had Financial Peace. But we did it 17 years ago when dh started college. We managed to get stuff paid off while he was in school. It was amazing. It's really kind of common sense but sometimes you just need somebody else to give you direction. I think either book is going to give you the basic info to get started and the incentive to want to do it.

Good luck.

Have you been to his website? I went there after seeing this post. I'm not sure what you're looking for but it had some interesting things on there like a calculator to show you if you had x amount of dollars to your mortgage how much sooner you pay it off and how much interest saved.

We are nearly finished with the debt snowball, that is the first steps of the program. We have not purchased anything from him, but we listen to the radio almost every day and I have surfed his site pretty thoroughly. It totally made sense for us, we were putting almost 2K away into savings/retirement/college, yet we were making payments on car, braces, furniture every month. We have two car payments left, than we are debt free except our house, we will start our investments again in three months. This is the basis of the plan

I've just heard so many great things about his plan and never looked through it myself. I wanted to see how it compares to what we are already doing. :)

On another moms group I belong to online, many of the moms follow his plan and have even started "support" groups for those who follow his plan. I don't follow the plan but have learned quite a bit just from their discussions.
