Food poisoning - better now

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Food poisoning - better now
By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, February 16, 2008 - 08:07 am:

We had a shower yesterday for one of the secretaries whose first child is due in about a month, and the food was pot-luck. Among the things I ate was home-made potato salad, deviled eggs, commercial chicken salad, home-made macaroni & cheese, and home-made miniature quiches. All of which are prime vectors (as my son calls it) for food poisoning.

Around 8:30 p.m. I felt funny and headed for the bathroom, and didn't quite make it for several bouts of diarrhea, and then vomiting. And back again about every 20 minutes until I brought up what was clearly some of what I ate for lunch. One more bout after that, and it all stopped. Scott went out and got gingerale, so I drank gingerale and took Immodium for the diarrhea. I was able to sleep, woke up around 1:30 for one more minor bout at each end, and I've been fine since. Usually I have a very strong stomach, and I think the last time I had vomiting was - oh - about 20 years ago when I had the flu. Which may be why once my stomach was emptied out it stopped and I was able to drink gingerale and sleep.

I'm exhausted, of course. Which is frustrating, because I'd just gotten permission to work overtime today to catch up on a backlog. Oh well, I'll go in tomorrow - today is going to be lots of naps.

I'm going to try to reach our office manager to alert her and to find out if anyone else was sick. I'm really concerned about the mom-to-be, and we have a woman in our accounting department who had surgery, chemo & radiation therapy about a year ago for breast cancer and is still on lots of meds and I suspect more vulnerable than most.

Yuck, sounds terrible! The one and only time we ever had food poisoning, we ended up in the ER for it and required medication! We were on vacation and all 3 of us got it and it was so not fun!

If it was some of the food you ate, I suspect there will be lots of stories similar to yours! I hope the mom to be and the other lady are ok!

I am definitely taking it easy. I've kept most of 2/3 of a liter of gingerale down and am going to try some toast.

Oh, yuck, that stinks!! Glad it was fairly mild, and that you are feeling better. Take it easy!!
