Disinfectant - cleaning house

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: Disinfectant - cleaning house
By Missymelissy on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 - 09:24 am:

As some of you may have read from my post Strep Pneumonia, DH is sick. MIL is coming this weekend to help me Spring clean and disinfect the house. I would like to know what everyone uses for cleaning:
* walls
* windows/glass furniture
* floors (linoleum)
* kitchen sinks and drains

and anything else I have not mentioned.

TIA

Sorry, forgot to ask. What do you use (cloths, towels, type of mop, duster, etc).

Thanks again.

I love the new swiffer dusters with the extenda handle for cleaning fans. When I did my spring cleaning, i bought some of those disposable green thin clothes for cleaning. I use a bleach product anywhere that it is safe!

I use Lyesol to disinfect. Open all the windows, strip all the beds, vacuum all the furniture, clean the carpets. To wash the walls it is easiest to use a new mop, that way you don't have to get on ladders. Vinegar down the drains. I throw my pillows & rugs outside. Spray & flip your beds- just lightly mist them. I let the Lyesol sit in the garbage cans outside until I am done for the day.

I hope your DH feels better.

I just did exactly what Emily said because we have passed around a stomach bug and it hadn't been done recently.

I would wash all of your door knobs, maybe replace his toothbrush.

I love to use the new spray comet to clean - it smells so fresh almost like dial soap. I

Don't forget the handle on the toilets and sink/shower faucet knobs!!!!

DH laughs at me because when I clean bathrooms, I make sure I clean the toilet handle too. Does anyone else find that strange??

I use fabuloso for my floors & my kitchen counters & sinks. Smells SOOO good! For the walls, I use 409 & get the smudges. Windows I use any window cleaner with newspaper to clean them. It can be the cheap kind cause it's just ammonia! Also, I use washcloths to clean the kitchen & bathrooms. If my sinks in the bathroom or the kitchen get dingy then I will soak them in bleach or Comet (both really cheap, and work great - that's why I love them) But I always go over them with Fabuloso. When I am done cleaning, I usually spray the "Crisp Linen" Lysol all over everything!

I use Lysol ad spray the kitchen sink & then use Clorox Clean up in it. Then, I throw my kitchen sponge away! Lots of germs on your sponge. I also spray Lysol in my trash can. Another germ magnet.

Karen, I wipe the toilet handle too! I don't think it's weird at all. I like the Clorox wipes! And don't forget door knobs as mentioned above.:)

Windows-windex.
Bathrooms-Clorox wipes & Clorox spray
Floors-Envirosteamer. Sometimes in the bathrooms, I just wipe them down with the Clorox wipes for a quick clean.

Don't forget your bedding. Dust mites! Take your matress pads off and wash them. Then, vacuume your mattress too.

Have fun! I'm in the process of Spring cleaning myself. Not fun!

Change the toothbrush is a must! :) Sounds like great advice all.

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 - 03:50 pm:

I used to change my kids' toothbrushes any time they had strep, or when any of us had the flu.

I'm actually pretty anal about changing toothbrushes regularly anyway. blush

Also wipe down the telephone!
