Rainy field trip

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: Rainy field trip

It has rained ALL day here today. No thunderstorms, just rain. Unfortunately, this was the day for Emily's 6th grade field trip to the Milwaukee County Zoo! Ugh. It rained the whole 3 hours that we were there. My jacket got soaked. My sweatshirt got soaked. My t-shirt got soaked. It was awful. Then on the way home, the busdriver must not have had the heat on because it sure seemed cold in the bus. I went to work with a turtleneck under my uniform top because I was soooo cold. Then work got crazy (like getting a bus when you work in fast food!) and I sure warmed up there, since we were running like crazy. (I work at a clinic.)

Now, I'm at home and almost ready for bed and I'm so cold again! Our furnace is on, but it's not THAT cold outside, so it's not running very often to maintain the temp, so it seems cold in my house. Maybe, I should just go to bed, so I can snuggle under my covers! LOL!

I had a group of six girls to watch at the zoo, one of my which was my daughter. They behaved pretty well. AFter all what 12yo doesn't get wound up once in a while. They helped keep track of each other, too. Although, I was having trouble remembering their names, I knew which girls to look for and counted them like three times going from the gift shop, to the bus and then on the bus. When the teacher asked if my group was on the bus, I was sure they were all there.

It was just miserable being out in the rain for so long! There is some indoor stuff, but there are long distances to walk to get from one place to another.

When is summer going to come? We are at 50 degrees outside right now and were in the 40's when I got up this morning. Hello! It is the 10th of June!

I know what you mean, although we are not as cold. Earlier this week I had my dh hook up the swamp cooler, we used it for 2 days. We got up to the 60's after a week of 80's & 90's.

I hope you warm up soon. The field trip sounded miserable, but fun.

Dawn, I live right below you outside of Chicago. I was thinking the same thing this morning, when is summer going to come. We barley hit 70 yesterday. It was our first day of summer break and it rained all day. I heard on the news this morning that it is suppose to rain until Monday. YUK!!! I guess we will have to go see the new Garfield movie today.

Yeap, rained all night and so far has rained all day today. We are going to float away pretty soon. It's the last day of school and we are going to see Shrek 2 this afternoon. My oldest is done now (hubby is going to get her now), the younger one is done at 12:45pm and I'm done with my lunch supervisor job at 1pm! Yay! I'm tired of being out of the loop with Shrek. It's gotten very positive reviews from the circle of people I hang around with on a daily basis.

I wish I could send some heat your way (South Central PA). For over two weeks we were hitting 90's. A cold front went through and it feels much better.

I'm so sorry about your field trip Dawn:( But I hope they had a good time. They'll remember this as the rainy field trip to the zoo!

Yeah. The 5th graders where my kids went to elementary school went to the state capitol (Madison) that Thursday, too. I got to see one of the moms on Friday. She said they got soaked, too. Ugh!
