Ds allergic to kitten :(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: Ds allergic to kitten :(

One of his eyes is bright red even part of the whites. This was after him being away from the cat for 8 hours already.

Took him to the doctor and she said that it is only going to get worse. The pet store can still get him adopted because he is 8 weeks old, so that seems like a good idea.

I would keep him myself but I don't see how I am going to keep them seperated...

Oh too bad. But I guess it is a good thing you found out now. And you will know to limit his contact or if he has a reaction you will know why. Glad they will still be able to adopt him out...

I think it is the best idea. If I wait untill he is too big, he won't be able to be adopted so easily.

So the kitty is doing well? I hadn't seen any post and wonder how he fared. How much time has your son spent with the cat. If this is the first time he has had an issue maybe it is a fluke and he has a cold of sorts.

He just woke up. His eye looks better today. Still alittle red. He was washing his hands by himself after he touched the cat yesterday.

He had a red eye one day previous. Like a week ago but it cleared up after he washed his hands. But his eye looked very bad yesterday even after 8 hours of being away from the cat. I took him to the doctor and she said it looked like allergies. The doctor said the cat hair and dander gets on the clothes and it will only get worse. My husband has the same problem but washes his hands if he touches the cat.

We had ds's cousin over and they were playing with the cat alot so that must be why his eye was so bad. Maybe I should wait to see if I can get him to wash his hands religiously? It isn't like I can't guarantee the nice cat a better life just by giving him to someone else. The cat is very attached to me. Sitting on me for hours a day.

My DH is this way with pet dander. When we bought our dog, gosh, 11 years ago, I had to drive home because his eye was swollen and bright red. He grew out of it and got used to the dog. He still has trouble with cats and will start wheezing if he is in a home with lots of cats for too long. He also has SUPER sensitive skin, just like my DD. Bug bites do the same thing! Not pretty.

I hope it gets better.:)
