Risk--the game

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2008: Risk--the game
By Cat on Sunday, December 30, 2007 - 03:27 pm:

Does anyone have it? Is it easy to play? I read it's ages 10 and up, so I'm assuming it's not super simple. I've heard of it forever, but never played it. I found a Transformer's Risk and am thinking of getting it for my Transformer's fanatic son. :) Just wondering if it'd be worth the money. TIA

DH said that it is much easier to play if one of the players already knows how to play. Even with all "newbies" it shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes or so to get the hang of it.

We play this game on occasion. It is Long to play, usually a game takes 2-3 hours. It isn't all that hard to play, but there are lots of rules to follow. In general in the original risk, it is a map. You start with so many "armies", you take turns placing pieces, when they are all placed, you roll dice, to battle, you place new armies, collect cards and such. Even after playing it all my life, I have to have to rules out to follow, because there are so many details. We enjoy it, but it is not a fast paced easy game.

I used to LOVE this game. Pam and I and our b/f's at the time used to play Risk every Friday night. We played some games that lasted through the weekend! It's a strategy game, and not for sore losers! LOL

I've played it in the past, but it's not my favorite game, since I usually end up losing! LOL!

I LOOOVE that game!

Well, he's not a good loser. :( I know he'd love the figures because he's so into transformers right now. He can quote parts of the movie! lol He's always been like that. Gets hyperfocused on certain things. I think I'll skip it, though. Dh has played it before and says it can take hours and someone has to be willing to play with him. Sorry to say, that would probably always have to be me. Randy can't stand being around him too long and dh can't take him very long. I don't know. I'll think about it some more. It might be good for him. It'd just take a commitment on my part.

Maybe Heidi can come down and play with him. :)

I did go ahead and order it. Here's what it looks like. I know he'll like it, even if he never plays it. I will make a point to play it with him, though. Thanx for the input. :)

LOL, Cat! I'd love to play with him! What a cool idea to incorporate transformers as well! I love transformers too, LOL. (My mom didn't have much money and I was a tomboy so I had to play with GI Joe and Transformers. It's really sad almost...especially since Jackie Chan was my hero for a long time. It's no wonder I joined a sorority eventually. I finally learned how to apply makeup! Tee hee.)

Believe me, Heidi, growing up with two older brothers and a mom who is a self-proclaimed tom-boy and I myself being a self-proclaimed tom-boy, I know where you're coming from! lol I'm still not sure I apply makeup correctly! rofl And I had just as many cars and trucks as dolls, if not more! Anytime you want to come down and play with Robin, you're more than welcome. I can play with Connor! :)
