Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: Text messaging
By Adilanylkoorb on Thursday, December 27, 2007 - 06:26 pm:

I've did this before but I forgot how. How can you send someone a text message using your e-mail? How many words can you type to display in the message? Can the person send a respond back to your e-mail? That one I don't know about.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, December 27, 2007 - 06:56 pm:

I have no idea how to do that.

I can't stand the whole texting thing. I just wonder, if you have the phone in your hand, why don't you just call them? That's just my opinion.

texting is great when someone can read a quick message, but can't answer a call or talk on the phone.

I LOVE to text! LOL I will text dh if I need him to pick something like milk or bread or something up on his way home! It is easier than calling him when I really don't need to "talk" to him. I never know what he might be doing at work and he could be involved in something pretty important! I will also text dd when we are at the lake camping and tell her to start to head back to the camper for dinner etc. Plus, it is just fun!! LOL

I have no idea how to text from email though! I am lucky I figured out how to do it on the phone. LOL

I adore texting, I text about 5,000 a month. Some carriers let you send text IMs, like using Yahoo IM in text message form. I don't think you can EMAIL a text, but some companies allow you send one from their website.

We have alltel, and you can send a text through their website, but other than that, I don't know.

Many times, when my husband is at work, he is able to check his texts and text back, when he can't use the phone to call... And the same with me at times...

Also, we don't have a signal here where I live (in the middle of the mountains) but I can text back and forth...

DH's company gave him a Blackberry so I can annoy him all day!! Moo haaa haaa!

As far as texting, I know I can send a picture from my phone to his email but I'm not sure how to text to a certain phone. Maybe the phone company's website can explain? We also use Bixmail and use that to send ourselves messages to our email. I also used it to send a message to Scott when he was overseas.

I haven't a clue. I don't even know how to text. My kids think I'm weird.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, December 28, 2007 - 06:09 am:

Nobody texts, at our house! I've tried texting DH, but he doesn't play along. We don't have unlimited texting on our phones, so everyone costs us money. That is part of why we don't.

5000 a month? When there have been texts on my phone, they haven't ever been from anyone I know! LOL!

Bellajoe, I've wondered the same thing, sometimes, about why not just call the person.

I dont text either. On our phone you have to pay for it. If I call my husband, and he cant talk, I just leave a voice mail on his cell, its no big deal.He always calls rightback when he gets the voice mail.Hes the only one I would probably text.

Adilanylkoorb,
Don't know if every provider works the same , but when I had Sprint me and my girl friend, my girl friend would text me from her phone to my email, and to reply I would send her a message form my email and I would send it to her name @ sprint.com of course we choose our own names.

and I think now with virgin mobile, someone would and could send me a text form there computer and just send it to my numer@virginmoble.com.

As someone mentioned the provider's web site should have some information for you.
