ER visit for Callie

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2007: ER visit for Callie
By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 01:16 am:

Callie has TMJ. Two nights ago, while in bed she went to yawn and her jaw popped. She put it back in place, or so she thought. Mentioned it in the morning but I figured no big deal. It happens and it never has had any long effects. Apparently, last night it hurt her so bad she was crying. I didn't find this out until about five minutes before I took her to work at 5 tonight, that it had hurt her that bad and that she was still in pain. By 8 she was calling from work wanting me to come get her. We drive home and decide to run over to the ER to have them check to make sure it was back in position. She has never had it hurt this long before, not at this level of actual pain. More like chewed gum to long, discomfort.

The ER doctor felt around and said it was clearly swollen in the joint. He had a pan x run and everything is back where it is supposed to be, there is no break in the bone but she has some serious swelling in the joint. She can barely open her mouth at this point. He put her on Naproxen 375 twice a day for a month, with a follow up with PCP if needed.

*shaking head* what's next?? LOL

Poor thing!!! I hope she's better soon!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 06:49 am:

Just got up and checked on her, woke her up. She said she slept okay and that her face just feels stiff/tight and sore. No real pain this morning. She must have really got it out of joint this time.

Worried she has Fibro too.. :( Only time will tell for sure but TMJ is a symptom and she exhibits a couple other symptoms.

Anyway, as of this morning she is feeling improvement and she has today off, so she can rest her trap.. LOL

Thanks Crys..

Oh my that has got to be painful, poor girl! I sure hope she doesn't have the fibro too, a friend of mine has that, and she is miserable with it at times. Hope she will feel some better!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Bobbie}}}}}}}}}}}}} I hope she continues to improve. I know how it feels when a bunch of stressful stuff happens at the same time. Hang in there kiddo, soon, the only way to go will be UP!

By Dramamamma on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 09:22 am:

By Tink on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 07:12 pm:

{{{Callie}}} I hope she's doing better tomorrow!

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 07:31 pm:

Yikes! I have TMJ and Fibro. So I definitely sympathize with her completely! Does she wear a mouth guard?

If not, they are very expensive, and most insurances won't pay for it. But you can buy some in the store that you boil in water for a minute and fit against the teeth, so you get a natural fit. They actually work.

I sure hope she is feeling better.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 08:05 pm:

Adena, she use to wear a mouth guard. She decided she didn't need to wear it anymore a few years ago. LOL she said today, that she was going to be going out tomorrow and getting one.. LOL

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 10:02 pm:

Bobbie, I've been reading your posts and I seriously cannot believe all this. If you had time to write a tell all book, the world would be astounded! :(
I hope you get a job, health insurance, and your poor dd gets better soon! I wish I had some helpful advice or wish I lived closer to help.
Keep us posted!

By Nicki on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 10:14 pm:

Ditto Heidi! I wish I could come over and help, too. Not that we could do much, but we (Heidi, Nicki, let's see, who else wants to come?:-)) could at least try to cheer you up. We love you, Bobbie.:-)

How is Callie feeling tonight?

By Wandilu on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 11:59 pm:

Oh,Bobbie,I pray that she doesn't have fibro!!!! My oldest DD has been diagnosed with it, and they think my youngest DD may have it.This is definately not the legacy that I wanted to hand down to them!!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 12:15 am:

Callie seems to be doing a bit better, or so she says. Her face is a bit swollen, her cheeks are pudgy. She is going back to work in the morning, 9 to 5:30. She won't be able to take her medication because it makes her tired. So, that might prove to be an issue.. We will have to wait and see.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 12:21 am:

Wanda, I am thinking that she does. I so don't want to see it happen but my gut tells me all the signs are there. I have read to much for my own good in this case...

By Karen~admin on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 09:31 am:

Bobbie, I have FMS and TMJ, and my grandmother and mom had it, Jen is also having the same symptoms, especially with the TMJ, which a dentist confirmed she has - she's had a really rough time with it lately. And like Callie, you can see the swelling and some days she can barely open her mouth to talk, much less eat.

I agree with Adena about the mouth guards. You can get the sports guards at a sports store, or now you can get a *night bite* guard at most pharmacies - that's what *I* am going to get. $30 is a LOT cheaper than $300 or more, which is what my dentist told me it would cost.

I am so sorry you guys are going through so much right now, wish I could help!

I hope she is feeling better. that is so painfull. I have tmj and at times when my jaw pops out and back in sometimes it can bring you to your knees. I have the night bite and it works really good I do hope that she is feeling better

By Breann on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 03:26 pm:

Poor Callie. I hope she is feeling better. The surgeon that did my DS's jaw surgery said that there is a good chance he'll suffer from TMJ.

By Debbie on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 08:27 pm:

{{{hugs}}} I hope she makes it through work. What a rotten thing to have to deal with, and she is so young too!

By Crystal915 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 10:25 pm:

How's she feeling now, Bobbie?

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 07:40 am:

Crys, she was bad last night, after talking all day and no medication she was so sore... She made it through youth group at church last night and then she came home and doped up. She is feeling a bit better this morning. She works from 8:30 to 5:30 today.

I just asked, she says it is getting better, still sore but not as bad.. It is a "muscle" she has to use so I am sure it will take a while for the swelling to heal. She is in better spirits this morning though. Thanks for all the thoughts everyone....

By Dawnk777 on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 08:19 am:

Ouch. I hope she has a better day today.
