Anyone else decorate today?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2007: Anyone else decorate today?
By Vicki on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 07:33 pm:

So, did anyone else stay away from the stores and decorate? I am DONE! 5 trees and all decorations up and lit, looks so pretty tonight!

By Sandysmom on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 07:41 pm:

We did a little decorating yesterday before company came over. Our kitchen cabinets have a place to put decoative plates above and so we strung lights up there and put up my reindeer plates with a wreath in the corner. Very cute, but we still have a lot to do. :)

By Dawnk777 on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 07:47 pm:

My kids did some decorating, while I was at work!

I don't have "above the kitchen cabinets" to decorate. :( Mine go all the way to the ceiling!

My boss went home early today, to get her tree set up, since her grown daughter was home to help. My boss hates putting up the tree, so with the daughter to do that task, she will have a tree to enjoy, without the bother.

By Pamt on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 08:31 pm:

We bought some decorations for our new house. Does that count? I need to do a major housecleaning and I'll decorate around the house as I do that. We probably won't get a tree for another week or so. I'll put my stuff up outside tomorrow and DH will probably take care of the lights outside sometime next week.

By Trina~moderator on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 09:37 pm:

We stayed home and put up our tree and most of our Christmas decorations today. smileysantahat

Vicki, 5 trees?!

By Yjja123 on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 09:41 pm:

The kids (including their cousins) decorated the tree after Thanksgiving dinner. It looks beautiful!

By Andi on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 10:49 pm:

I hung the lights outside today and did a few decorations in the house. We will get our tree on the 1st and finish up the decorating then.

By Brandy on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 11:23 pm:

I tried talking my husband into going to get our tree out of storage but it hasn't happened yet
= ( that's all i usually do as far as decorating though...

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 12:28 am:

Maybe we'll get our outside lights up tomorrow.

By Vicki on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 07:53 am:

Yes, 5 trees!

We have 2 that are full size, regular trees. One in the family room and one in dd's bedroom.

Then a 4 foot tahoe tree in a room that really doesn't have a name. LOL It was supposed to be a dining room when we built the house, but I didn't want a dining room, so we converted it to a regular room. It is decorated like a family room would be, but it doesn't have a tv. Sitting room maybe? I don't know what it is called. We call it the bird house room because it kind of has a bird house theme! LOL

A 3 foot tahoe tree in the kitchen.

A 3 foot skinny tree on the landing going up the stairs.

I actually forgot one. I also have a 3 foot tree that is Americanna decorated in the computer room. So we have 6 trees!

I will confess that the computer room tree and the 2 tahoe trees are put away fully decorated though! So all I have to do is get them out and in place and fluff them up a bit.

Lighted garland on the mantle and on top of a hutch in the kitchen...... I love decorating for Christmas! I am going to a few craft shops today to look for a few more Christmas decorations!

By Conni on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 08:37 am:

I am going back to buying a real tree this yr. After 8 yrs of using a fake tree. We had real trees growing up, then my ex and I had real trees...Dh and I had a real tree the first two Christmas's we were together. When I had Blake I bought a fake tree. That was 8 yrs ago. So it will be fun to take him to hunt for that special tree for our home. Like we use to do growing up. My mom has a fake tree now because of my Dad's allergies/sinus'...

In other words, no we didnt decorate yet. lol We will the first few weeks of December though. I am cleaning and decorating for my 14 yo bday party today!!! Middle ds is 14 today. I cannot believe it. :( :) It's bittersweet. He opened his gift last night. Guitar Hero III and a Guitar for the XBOX 360. I think he was up all night playing it. argh He has 10 teens coming over this afternoon to hang out and go to movies, etc... Half of which are staying the night (the other half are girls. lol)...

By Tonya on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 09:38 am:

I did the shopping during the morning yesterday then got all of the outdoor stuff up in the afternoon. Then last night the tree and lights went up. Now today we must decorate the tree and I am going to wrap some presents tonight. That is the best to me is having presents under the tree. I love to see the kids faces when the presents are under the tree.

By Vicki on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 12:41 pm:

Putting presents under the tree now would kill my dd. LOL It would drive her nuts!

By Nicki on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 12:51 pm:

We're putting our tree up today. Lara is so excited.

Vicki, your house must feel so cozy! I'd love to see photos of your trees. Actually, I think it be fun if we all posted pictures of our decor.:-)

Have fun, everyone!

By Bellajoe on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 07:46 pm:

I put up the lights outside today and the wreath on the door. Maybe we will put the tree up next weekend or the week after that. Last year we put it up the first weekend of December and by Christmas I was so ready to take it down, i don't want to feel that way this year. :)

I love Christmas decorations!

By Karen~admin on Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 07:49 pm:

Our tree is up, I love it this year. I got all my Christmas dishes out of storage, there was a lot of stuff that was my moms, washed it all, and it's ready to use. Ditto all the candle holders, table cloths, napkins. I was determined to have the tree up before we leave on Friday. The past 2 years we haven't even had a tree.

Jen and 2 friends helped us decorate. I don't remember her ever being so excited about decorating *our* tree. Actually, for a few years, she refused to help, but this year she came in, telling her friends that *we have the most beautiful trees in the world*. ROFL! I guess she is a bit biased.

Not doing outside stuff this year. :-(

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 08:07 am:

Karen, that is great to hear about Jen, she sure has come a long way... I am so happy for you both.

We haven't decorated yet, I think we will get started today after Church. I kind of would like Callie to be here, but her work schedule has conflicted with me getting around to it. :( thinking I am going to have to do it with out her..

I am likely going to have to re-arrange my living room to get the tree up and that will drive DH nuts... He hates it when I move things around, LOL.

Seeing pictures would be great.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 10:57 am:

Got my wreath today and it's on the door! The 4H kids sell them every year.

By Conni on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 01:03 pm:

I still have not done any decorating... My house is a mess from 10 teenagers being in it yesterday and some stayed all night. The last one just headed home. Now I get to focus on cleaning up and studying for final exam...

ugh... I might lay on couch in front of fire and watch a movie first. lol ;)

I agree everyone should post pic's!!! :)

By Nicki on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 02:20 pm:

Karen, I'd love to see a picture of your tree.:-) (Pretty please?) How sweet that your daughter brought her friends in to see it!
Conni, I don't envy you that clean up job. I think I'd watch a good movie first, too.

By Karen~admin on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 02:50 pm:

Well, Bobbie, she hasn't come *that* far, because she hasn't exactly been following the rules. And this past week was a really bad one. But in the spirit of the holidays, and especially Christmas, I put all that on the back burner since she was making an effort. This has always been my favorite time of year, to me it is all about family, and I was just glad that she wanted to be involved. Jeff is coming over after work tonight, and we saved *his* special ornaments for him to hang on the tree.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 25, 2007 - 04:59 pm:

We just put most of our outside stuff up. I have to search for the icicle lights and it's almost time to take Emily to school, to get ready for the parade. We have a timer gizmo, so everything is automated and I don't have to remember to turn it off, at night. It was a learning process to figure out the correct way to place the red and green pins. This year, it's still all set up from last year, so just had to plug stuff in! Yay. We won't get a tree for another week or two. I don't like to buy a real tree too far ahead of time.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 07:39 am:

Karen, I understand. The kids are always in my prayers, maybe some day they will see the light and get it all together.. Didn't know Jeff had moved back out, BTW. I am thinking we haven't talked in quite a while, lol, I am behind the loop on a lot it seems.. Love ya K... Glad you are feeling festive...

Still haven't decorated. So trying to get in the mood to get it done... The kids want things up yesterday and I am so dreading it. I use to love Christmas but it just seems to get harder every year to get started with it all. I might... Try to pull it off this afternoon while they are at school, a suprise..

By Brandy on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 09:46 am:

I just posted my trees in photo sharing and 2 of my bulbs = ) they are pretty...alex decorated the tree for us this year because i had to work = ( and didn't get to help...i did get to put the tree up and help with the lights though = )

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 08:15 pm:

Still no tree and it isn't happening tonight... Gosh, I need to get it together. Got to at least do that much. Anyone wanting to drive up/down/over here and help??? Not joking, here.. I so can not get into the spirit.

By Colette on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 09:36 pm:

No tree until the weekend of the 8th, but Dh is in London for a bit, so I will probably bring the other decorations up from the cellar and let the kids decorate the house.

By Mlee on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 11:18 pm:

I'm a Christmas Slacker. I've been telling the kids for years that the tree gets "too dry" if you put it up before about the 15th..or even the 20th if I'm having a tough year. :)

What is a tahoe tree? I read about your trees to my DH, and I just heard him in the kitchen muttering "Six trees!"

Bobbie, take it easy! Wait until someone can help. I like to haul the ornaments out of the basement then sit on the couch watching DKs decorate. It's one of the nicest parts of the holidays for me.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, November 26, 2007 - 11:51 pm:

Tahoe tree? Is just a table top artificial tree. They are prelit and some are themed. You pull it from a box and there ya go..

Dh and I had one as our first tree. Our's was themed with ornaments that looked like old fashioned toys and red and gold ribbon. It was all ready to go in the box, pull it out fluff it up and there you go. Quick and Easy..

Wish the big one was that easy. I bought a 9 foot tree last winter... Surly won't be a fluffing and there you go situation around here these days.

I am holding off Mlee.. I need to see if I can talk DH and DS into helping me get some furniture moved around before I even dream of dragging that monster out of the basement.

By Vicki on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 07:19 am:

Tahoe tree is an artificial tree, but mine didn't come prelit or decorated. They are very "Charlie Brown Christmas" looking trees. LOL They are actually very hard to decorate because they are so sparse. But my house is decorated very country/primitive and they fit right into my style!

Here is one listed on Ebay:

TAHOE TREE

By Mlee on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 07:39 pm:

Thanks Vicki & Bobbie. It does look tricky to decorate. And a bit Charlie Brownish (so cute!) :)

Lots of Christmas trees are grown here in Oregon, and it has become standard to prune them so that every tree is shaped like the ones you drew (or at least I drew) in kindergarten: a green triangle on a short stick. Ornaments can't hang from branches; you hook them on a branch and lay them across the foliage below. They were challenging to decorate at first, but I'm used to them now.

A nine foot tree to haul up from the basement, Bobbie? Yep, better wait for those DMFM (Dear Male Family Members)!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 12:55 am:

Mlee, Wait, HA.. I have been waiting. I wanted it up Thanksgiving day. LOL My DS takes after my DH when it comes to doing something. I have to stand over them both. LOL I feel sorry for my DS future wife, he is full of reasons to wait on everything and he and DH drive me straight up the wall. I will need to teach her how to stand in front of him with her hands on her hips with that you better get up or else look in her eyes.. LOL

I think I am going to try to knock it out tomorrow, Callie has off.. She is wanting to run out and buy some gifts in the morning while the girls and Dillan are at school. So depending on whether I can ride or walk the store, we will see.. To much walking and I will be spent.
