What religion are you a match for?

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): What religion are you a match for?
By Loving2 on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 01:35 am:

I'm posting this here because it's about religion which can be a hot topic. But I think this is really interesting & wanted to post it.

This is a site where you answer several questions & it tells you "what religion (if any) you practice...or ought to consider practicing." The questions aren't always easy & can require some thought.

http://beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
Be sure to check the yellow box after you make your choice.

I was raised in the Methodist, Lutheran, & Baptist religions.
My top 5 from the site were:
1. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (100%)
2. Eastern Orthodox (94%)
3. Roman Catholic (94%)
4. Seventh Day Adventist (88%)
5. Orthodox Quaker (87%)

By Trina on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 08:04 am:

Bummer, Susan! I was in the middle of taking the quiz and then certain pages couldn't be displayed. I'm real curious at to what religion I match. Considering my up bringing and beliefs this should be interesting! I'll try again later.

By Eve on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 10:38 am:

2. Liberal Quakers (83%)
3. Bahá'í Faith (80%)
4. Reform Judaism (76%)

By Laurazee on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 10:48 am:

This was an interesting site! I always wondered what I was. Funny that Catholicism, which I grew up with, is right near the bottom (beLOW Scientology - ACK!). My top five are

2. Liberal Quakers (96%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (91%)
4. Bahá'í Faith (73%)
5. Reform Judaism (69%)

Sent it to my dh; wonder what he'll come back with!

By Sunny on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 10:51 am:

Count me as a Liberal Protestant, too. I'm not surprised. I was brought up, and still am, a Lutheran.

"Also sometimes referred to as secular, modern, or humanistic. This is an umbrella term for Protestant denominations, or churches within denominations, that view the Bible as the witness of God rather than the word of God, to be interpreted in its historical context through critical analysis. Examples include some churches within Anglican/Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, and United Church of Christ. There are more than 2,000 Protestant denominations offering a wide range of beliefs from extremely liberal to mainline to ultra-conservative and those that include characteristics on both ends."

By Kathy on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 10:54 am:

This is interesting:
1. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (100%)
2. Baha'i Faith (90%) NEVER EVEN HEARD OF IT, LOL!
3. Orthodox Quaker (85%)
4. Liberal Quaker (82%)
5. Mainline to Conservative Christian Protestant (75%)

I was raised Roman Catholic, but it came in 13th, at 60%...I have a friend who is a Mormon, and I KNOW that there are a lot of those things I disagree with, yet it came in 8th! (ahead of my own religion!?)

It was a kind of fun little quiz, but missed some very big issues and asked very limited questions. The one where you had to "check all that apply" I didn't check ANY, so that may have skewed the results a little.

By Ginnyk on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 01:23 pm:

1 - Reform Judaism
2 - Liberal Quakers
3 - Neo-Pagan (?!)
4 - Unitarial Universalism (was one for 6 years)
5 - Sikhism (?!)
7 - Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestant

Actually, I am a member of a United Methodist Church that is on the left wing of United Methodism, and was raised a Missouri Synod Lutheran (very conservative branch of the Lutheran Church).

By Kim on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 01:50 pm:

Mahayana Buddhists 100% match

Wow this was very interesting. Here are my results:
Orthodox Quaker 100%
Seventh Day Adventist 94%
Mainline to conservative Christian 90%
Morman 87%
Jehovah's Witness 84%

I am actually Seventh Day Adventist so I am pleased to know it shows in my thinking :)However, I was thinking as I was marking the boxes that it wouldn't LOL!
This was fun THANKS!!

By Jujubee on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 02:09 pm:

My religious background: I would have to say I was "homeschooled" basic Christian doctrine.

By Kay on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 - 05:36 pm:

I was raised Catholic, still am, married a Catholic and we have Catholic children. Big surprise, I'm listed as 100% Catholic. :)

By Karen55 on Saturday, July 13, 2002 - 09:04 am:

I had my DH do this, and his top 5 were the same ones as mine, although not exactly the same percentages. And the interesting thing is, my DH is Jewish, had religious training, bar mitzvahed, etc., while I was baptized Methodist.

By Kym on Monday, July 15, 2002 - 10:50 pm:

Well Ginny you and I were the same top five, different order though, you, me and Kim look like the only ones with only a small amount of Liberal Christian in us :) My dh did this too we had a great evening looking up all the different religions and getting the info. Thanks Susan I enjoyed this link.

I like how the site says: Warning: Belief-O-Matic assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul.

By Melani on Sunday, December 8, 2002 - 06:01 pm:

I matched 100% to mainline to conservative Christian Protestant (which I am, sort of - I don't consider Baptists to be Protestants), with Orthodox Quaker (which I will never be) a close second. There are lots more religion test here:http://www.selectsmart.com/religion.html

By Barbie on Monday, December 9, 2002 - 06:07 pm:

I checked out this site and I'm concerned that this kind of test could confuse someone. A lot of things that seem innocent or not. These questions were very broad-based. Some had answers that had a little bit of what you believe with just a little more or less than you believe. It seem that it was worded in away to actually change what you thought was your belief system, or to make you consider to look into another denomination. Take into consideration that witchcraft was among the religion. I read some of the comments from people and that what scared me, was people asking how to get more information on wiitchcraft and pagan religions. Someone who is lost and looking for something to believe in can be easily drawn into something that could cost them their salvation. I don't mean to sound like someone who can't have a laugh, because I can, it just some things are too important to take lighty. God Bless

By Bea on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 01:44 am:

1. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (100%)
2. Liberal Quakers (89%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (89%)
4. Neo-Pagan (82%)
5. New Age (74%)
6. Reform Judaism (71%)

I guess I ended up where my beliefs led me. I was baptized, raised and educated Roman Catholic, but converted to Episcopalian years ago. I needed a church that respected women, allowing me to think and ask questions.

I don't understand how getting information about other beliefs would threaten anyone's faith, Barbie. I think such understanding promotes tolerance and peace. People approach their God through many venues. I know what my soul seeks. I do not judge that another's path is inherently wrong because it isn't mine.

By Barbie on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 05:04 pm:

Like I said It's a conscern for me b/c of those that are truly lost who are searching and don't know what they believe in. Yes, it's very important to be tolerent of others and their beliefs, but at the same time I don't want someone seeking out answers to questions from a bad source such as witchcraft. I take my relationship with Jesus Christ very serious and I'm to care about every ones soul as he does. Some people are very strong in their faith and can handle any challenge to it, but those that have no faith and are searching this could be damaging to them. And as for judging, I judge no man, that's God's job and he doesn't need my help, I simply hold on to what I believe thru Jesus Christ and pray for my brother as he directed and try to never lead anyone into something that can not understand. And before anyone says that I'm accusing any one of doing that, I am not. I believe every one here to be very decent people who care about others, it is very obvious when you read posts. I was merely stating my opinion on the hidden danger in something that may appear harmless. We used to sing the song when my kids were small and it said " the devil is a sly old fox" and he surely is. God Bless All

By Terri4him on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 - 09:21 pm:

Barbie....
I totaly agree girl....I take my walk very seriously as well....I get nervous about those kind of tests as well...I think eveyone is GREAT here!!!

Blessings
Terri

By Autumn on Thursday, January 30, 2003 - 09:09 am:

I've taken this test before, but had forgotten what it put me at:

1. Orthodox Quaker (100%)
2. Seventh Day Adventist (90%)
3. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (86%)
4. Eastern Orthodox (77%)
5. Roman Catholic (77%)

I find this odd, as I was brought up believing that catholics were heathen idol worshippers. Note, I said I was BROUGHT UP that way. NOT that I currently believe that way. Aaaaaaaaaaaaany way.
