TTC - but cycle too short... been through this??

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: TTC - but cycle too short... been through this??
By Amyk on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 08:22 pm:

Hi Ladies -

My DH and I started TTC baby #2 a few months ago - but have not had success...yet! What has been concerning me is that my menstrual cycles are sooo short. Here are the last 5: 24, , 20, 22, 18, 17.

Anyway, when you are less than 21 days - you can't even chart when you ovulate. That being said, I did some research online today and found that with a cycle shorter than 21 days- there really isn't time to grow a viable egg or create a good enough lining to support a pregnancy. Ugh!

I have a call in to my OB - hope she is willing to go ahead and address this.

My question... has anyone else had a similar problem and what was done to treat it?

Thanks a million!

BTW-On this ovulation calculator it gives you you're fertile days with having 20 day cycles and it gives you up to 5 months of dates.I hope it works for you.

We tried for 10 cycles, my cycle is 23-25 days, and we didn't get pregnant, however I have children from my previous marriage, so when we're ready to try again we'll have DH tested. Anyway, there are meds you can take to lengthen your cycle, I suggest checking out Fertility Friend dot com, it was well worth the money to get a paid membership and have the support of other women going through the same things. There were MANY women in your situation, and the charts help you figure out if you are ovulating or not. If you'd like to chat more about it, email me at cjaping at gmail dot com. Good luck and BABY DUST!!!!

Update - talked to my ob and she is going to have me in tomorrow for tests and prob. go on Clomid. Apparently, b/c I'm nearing 35 and my mom went through menopause at age 38, my doc doesn't think I should wait around - that I need to take action.

Wish me luck! Yikes!

Hi all-

asking for your prayers. Got my test results back and essentially I'm running out of eggs and the chances of us conceiving a child using my eggs are small. Even with IVF, etc. We are going to try all the options - starting with the simplest first - but this has been very upsetting. Just asking for your prayers. Thanks.
Amy

Amy don't give up. BTDT !!!! I took clomid for two months at age 31 for my first. Expected this to work the same way when ready for #2, however it didn't. Went through all kinds of testing and charting. Took the shots on certains days of the month and still nothing. Doc said we wouldn't be able to have anymore kids. When the oldest was four we got rid of all the baby stuff and were happy with what we had. And guess what? Without any fertility help I got pregnant at age 39. My boys are 7 years apart. I'll be praying for you.

Thanks everyone - I'm really having a hard time with the news - and my dh is out of town. Ugh! My mind is racing constantly and having crying spells, etc. It doesn't help that I'm taking all these extra hormones!!! Mary, may I ask you if you had your FSH levels tested way back when and what they were? My FSH is 16.5. Not good. I feel like my options are donor egg or miracle. What if I do donor egg too soon and I miss my miracle?

Thanks for listening/reading!

Lots of hugs to you!!

Yes, I had the same problem, short cycle's. I seemed to ovulate, when I did, very close to the end of my period. We ended up using Clomid for all of 3 of our children, 4 month, 1 month, and 2 months, all in my mid to late thirties. Clomid can cause lots of 'moodiness' in some women, it was rough sometimes, but certainly managable.

There's plenty of hope left for you, no need to panic yet. I had 3 miracles (and I know well the impatience!) and you'll have you're miracle too.

Thanks for the stories of hope! Did you have high FSH levels? Mind telling me the specs? I need some happy stories!
