Organic vs. "Regular" Food Worth the $??

Moms View Message Board: Cooking and Recipe Discussion: Discuss Cooking and Looking for Recipes: Organic vs. "Regular" Food Worth the $??
By Northcountrymom on Monday, February 9, 2009 - 11:31 pm:

I find I'm weighing this question every time I go shopping for groceries these days. I want to buy natural and organic. Everything from the breads, meats and vegetables to canned food and dairy is up for grabs. Money is tight for everyone. Organic costs a lot more $, but we all want to protect our children from pesticides and other poisons.

I still debate most items. The things my little guy will eat are most likely to eat are bought at a food coop we joined that has organic everything but my coverage is imperfect. He doesn't always like the organic, sugar and dye free foods. But he loves free range, organic, antibiotic free chicken - actually commented on the difference. Felt bad for the other chickens and cows too.

I thought the chart in this article was helpful:

There is an older study of little kids with controls that indicates different levels of some substances when kids arefed only organic:

I don't spend as much time or $ on organic cloth or makeup but am wondering how much of my son's enviornmental allergies is contributed to by artificial/chemical components in clothes, bath and health care products and even detergents. Some of my friends have gone the distance and seem to be reaping the benefits.

Opinions and cost saving for natural and organic products enthusiastically welcome. What do you do?

I just started shopping at whole food once a week.

I try to buy everything there now.

I like the Paul Newman's cookies and tomato sauce and his company makes.

I don't know if it helps or not. I have to go and buy rice milk so I try to buy what I need in there.

I am addicted to organic tee shirts for Hanna Anderson. I wear nothing else. My son loves them the best too.

I just did a cleanse from DR natura.

I highly recommend it.

I am doing the toxout and the Colonex.

It is like a super fiber drink.

I have just been doing it less that a week.

My skin is glowing and I mean glowing. I had some pimples that I had for over seven years. They are dissapearing.

My sinus pain have disappeared. My stomach is flat. My tmj has disappeared.

My energy is improving. Remember I just got over walking pnemonia.

It totally makes sense to me. This stuff is like fiber on steriods. A tablespoon of this super fiber scrubs your insides out so your body can deal with allergy problems. Getting rid of the toxins in 24 hours so you can deal with all the toxins around you.

I always said my skin problems was due to allergy problems and I think this proves it. I joke that I am allergic to my house and that was causing sinus and tmj problems.

It actually tastes good to me. It is a fiber drink and I am actually craving it.

You drink the big glass of fiber drink in the morning then drink another glass of water after that. You can do it up to three times a day safely.

And you can stay on it safely forever supposedly.

So I will see how it goes. Anyway it is great. A cleanse where you can eat what you want and not starve yourself. Anyway I recommend it to anyone who feels sick and wants to try something new to help themselves.
