Dinner ideas?

Moms View Message Board: Cooking and Recipe Discussion: Discuss Cooking and Looking for Recipes: Dinner ideas?

I'm looking for something where I don't have to touch or prepare meat, or smell anything bad! Oh yes, and I don't want to stand at the stove and I don't want to do any dishes. Any ideas? LOL!

I'm being funny, but serious. I hate to keep getting takeout! I just don't feel like cooking! I'm craving McDonald's happy meals, Frosted Flakes, and cresent rolls. Easy Mac too. (Which I have not even purchased in OVER a year! LOL!:)

My no-cook ideas...Chicken Caesar salad- get a bag of romaine lettuce (even better, the caesar salad kit that contains dressing, croutons, etc.) and add the Tyson pre-cooked chicken strips. (a little pricey, but cheaper than eating out!) Also, I love the fried chicken or rotisserie chicken from the deli at the grocery store. Add a few side dishes from the deli, and voila!

Slow cooker time...

Mac & cheese
8 oz elbow mac
3-4 c sharp cheddar
13 oz can evaporated milk
1 1/2 c milk
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
chopped onion to taste
in a greased slow cooker combine everything except 1 c of cheese that you spinkle on top of the mixture. cover & cook 3-4 hrs don't remove lid until it is done.

Do you need to cook the macaroni prior to putting it into the crock pot?

Other recipes that I've seen like this you did. Just curious. It would make it so much easier if you didn't have to.

I was the same way when I was pregnant - honestly could not stomach the smell or sight of meat for a few months. Hopefully that will pass.

This thread makes me laugh. Long time ago now, Renee (from this board) and I would spend about 2 hours a day on ICQ chatting about what to cook for dinner. SHE WAS GREAT FOR IDEAS!!!! DH loved coming home to meals she told me about. THEN SHE GOT PREGNANT! No more chats of food at all. My meals got so blah.

I was so happy when she finally had her baby. Saddly, though, I kept getting virus hits via ICQ so I no longer have any of those chat programs. Renee, I miss our chats!

When I was pregnant, my main food choices involved anything having to do with dicing. I was able to sit for hours and "DO" something that served a purpose. We had speghetti a lot, pizza, tacos of a variety styles, tons and tons of salads w/ or w/out cooked chicken. Store bought rotissarie chicken is an option. I never could manage to go to the store when they were cooking it.....ick!

Take Out, that is what DH would bring home most of the time because I couldn't cook. :)

Frozen raviolis, stuffed shells or manicotti. Put it in an aluminum foil lined pan (or buy the aluminum pans and use a cookie sheet for support), pour sauce over it and bake. Buy the prepared lettuce for salad and italian bread, use paper plates, bowls and plastic forks.

No meat, no mess, no dishes! :)

If you can stand the sight of turkey cutlets or chicken cutlets long enough to put them in a microwave safe dish with a cover and a vent, you can take the cutlets, add water and salsa and microwave them on high for about ten minutes until they are done. They come out very tender and tasty. You can to the same thing with ground beef, chicken or turkey for tacos.

You can also get pre-cooked shrimp and mix them with steamed veggies - also done in the micro (my favorite way to cook). Fast and no smell.
Good luck.
