Prego Pasta Bake

Has anyone tried this? I've got it in the oven now for dinner. It smells great! I did add about 1/2lb ground beef to the sauce, though. Dh doesn't consider it a meal if meat of some sort isn't involved! lol Also, does anyone know what the difference between this and spaghetti sauce is? It looked a bit thicker, like maybe it had more tomatoe paste in it. I wonder if I could make my own. I guess a little experimenting would be in order, although it really wasn't that expensive. It was $2.39 at Walmart, and the box of Zitti pasta was only $.50, plus Mozzerella cheese (already had, but can't be more than a buck) and a veggie you've got a whole meal for four (with leftovers) for about $4.50. I don't think that's too bad. Barbara, show me how to make it cheaper! lol :)

I have wondered the same thing, I don't boil the noodles when I make lasagna, I just add extra sauce and water. After you "experimentation" would you let us know?

the only I way I would know to get it cheaper is to use coupons!! LOL $4.50 for a meal is great I usually aim for $5

One way to get coupons is go to Ragus website or call their 800 number and praise their product. Many times I have written an email and told someone how I like their product or felt it needed improvement and they send me coupons, rebates and free things! I am currently on 18 product approval boards....they send me test products and I rate them and test them then they 'pay' with free product samples.... a little trouble for a big reward....so if you enjoyed it let Ragu know!

It turned out pretty good. It was a little dry because dh was late getting home from work, but if he'd been on time it would have been great. Figures, I have dinner ready on time for once and he's late! lol We had lots of leftovers (enough for a couple more meals) so it was pretty cost effective for a meal. The kids didn't care for it, but they're picky. Dh said it tasted like lasagna. I guess it did sort of, but a LOT less work!

Jann, I haven't cooked lasagna noodles for years! I do what you do, add a little extra sauce and water. Turns out great! Not runny at all. I tell people I get second day lasagna the first day. :)

Barbara, I'll have to check out Cambell's website. That's who makes it. I know because I called the 800# on the jar to see if there were high altitude directions. Seems since we moved here I can't even boil water! lol The first time I made rice it was awful! It takes 30 minutes here instead of 20. Oh, hard boiled eggs are tricky, too. About the time I figure out all this cooking stuff, we'll move again. I just love the military! (you read the sarcasm in that, right??? )

you know I tried that Prego pasta bake stuff and it was awful :( I did exactly as the directions said and some of the pasta was still not cooked and eww just bad for this household LOL

Thats ok, I make my own spaghetti sauce and stuff anyway, so its not something I would buy on a regular basis if it had turned out for us. Ok Im rambling..

I had the same problem. It didn't turn out right. Hey Cat that High Altitude probably saved ya!! LOL :)

I added just a little extra water (because of the high altitude!) and let it cook about 10 minutes longer than the jar said. I don't know if we'll have it again or not. My kids are SO picky and I hate to waste stuff. Thanx for all the input! :)
