When was Circuit City formed?
Circuit City was founded in 1949 as Wards Company, Inc., the brainchild of Samuel S. Wurtzel. With only 2 percent of U.S. homes owning
a television in 1949, Wards TV was able to capitalize on the dawn of the TV era. Wards continued to expand through the following decades and was renamed Circuit City in 1984.
