When buying a Laserjet printer here are some important factors to consider:
Color or Black and White:
The introduction of the color Laserjet has enhanced the easy creation of colorful marketing and sales documents. However, the supplies
cost for color Laserjet printers is significantly more than a monochrome printer.
Print Speed:
Usually rated in ppm (page per minute), this specifies the MAXIUMUM print speed. In practice, this speed would only be reached with very little content
on the page.
Connectivity:
A wireless printer is very convenient in a small office environment but offers much lower security than a wired printer.
Toner Cost:
The little known secret about Laserjet printers is that they are loss leaders. Manufacturers make up the majority of their cost on the printer supplies.
Depending on the volume of printing, Lasetjet toner costs can easily exceed the original purchase cost of the printer. As mentioned earlier, monochrome
printing is significantly lower in cost than full color. So, if the vast majority of your printing needs are monchrome documents, consider getting a separate
color ink jet printer along with a monochrome laser.
Duty Cycle:
This is the number of expected pages you intend to print per month. Laserjet printers can be roughly divided into small business/home printers
with a duty cycle of < 10,000 pages and large workgroup printers that can printer tens of thousands of pages per month. Besides the significant cost
difference, a high duty cycle printer is designed to handle these printing loads without breaking down. Also, the larger toner cartridges of workgroup
printers can reduce your cost per page and don't need to be changed as frequently.
