I feel so violated :(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2007: I feel so violated :(

Both of our cars were "broken into" last night. Somehow neither car got locked and when we got in my husband's this morning the contents of his center console was strewn all over the passenger seat. His change bag was gone but thankfully nothing else was taken. My car was also missing my change cup. They didn't bother with the sunglasses or the satellite radio or any of the cds. I'm grateful that they just took the loose change...probably not even enough there to buy a magazine! What upsets me most isn't that the cars had stuff stolen out of them...that's our fault for forgetting to lock them. But both cars were parked in our driveway and can be seen from the kitchen! How can people be so bold?! I had thought that we were paranoid for having our home security system but now I'm very happy that we do.

On a better note... I haven't posted here much in the last two years and probably no one remembers me but I'm graduating in May with my masters in physician assistant studies. I start work in June working at the local hospital! :) Back before I started the PA program I received a lot of nice advice here that stopped me from second guessing my decision to go back to school. Although I haven't posted much since starting school I do visit often. I'm hoping that once I settle into the new job that I'll be able to post more often.

I remember you!!! Congratulations on graduating and the job! :) You're going to do great. I'm proud of you. :)

I'm so sorry about your cars. People are bold these days. At least they didn't get anything important. Dh had a car stolen once. He had a couple suits in the trunk, a bunch of cd's, a mini tape recorder and some tapes I'd sent him from Korea and a few other things in it at the time. The police found it a few days later--well, the frame anyway. If it could be removed from the car, it was. They even took the windshield wipers. Chop shop. They took it from the parking lot of the appartment complex he lived in at the time. It was a real downer and it took him a while to get over it. Lots of hugs.

I'm sorry about your cars, but don't feel guilty about leaving the doors unlocked. A few months ago, I had my car broken into as well, right in my own driveway. The difference is that they broke my window because the door was locked. I'm glad they didn't take much!
And congrats on graduating and the job!

I had some cassette tapes stolen from my car once. Never would have guessed that some Christian music and soundtrack to Oklahoma were that valuable! I also didn't lock my car. (I still don't. I don't always think of it.)

It is so nice when people come back after a long absence and tell the MV members that we were helpful. Makes me feel really good about us.

I'm sorry to hear about your cars. Dh's car was stolen a few years back and it was a terrible experience.

On the bright side, congratulations on your degree and new job!

I can sort of relate to how you are feeling. My sister called me the other morning because someone had stolen and totally stripped her car that was parked right in front of her house. I am glad they only took the loose change!

welcome back!

Ditto the others. I can understand your feelings about the cars and what a sickening experience. Again, on a positive note, congratulations on your degree, best of luck in your new job, and welcome back!

Thanks everyone. :)
A short update to our saga...we were sitting in the backyard by the fire and watched three guys hop a fence two houses down to enter the backyards of our neighbors. DH installed a motion sensored light and it went off when they entered the neighbor's yard and the guys started running. DH ran out to the street and confronted one of the guys which I really wish he hadn't done. So now I'm not going to be able to sleep worrying that these people are going to come back. I hate this neighborhood. :(

Congrat's on the schooling and the job Kelly!

Sorry to hear about your cars. Mine got broken into about 10 years ago. I was staying at an old boyfriends house on my way home from college. My car was stuffed with stuff including,a VCR, clothes and my walkman that I had begged for from my mom and got it for my birthday finally. They broke the back window and the ONLY thing they took was my walkman! I was so upset. I remember just laying in bed crying, I too felt so violated.....the boyfriend was a jerk about it, which is why we broke up soon after :)

Anyways, i'm glad nothing else was stolen.
