Anyones dh had a testicular hernia?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2007: Anyones dh had a testicular hernia?
By Mara on Saturday, April 14, 2007 - 05:04 pm:

Two days ago dh told me that his left testicle was sore and had a lump on it....I looked and yes, it seems swollen at bit. He is terrified to go to the doctor, although he agreed to go tomorrow if I go with him. He is very afraid of what they will want to do to him. I'm assuming it's a hernia, although really I'm not positive of that. Just been scanning the web for info. Any of you been through this with your dh, dad, brother, friend? He is not nauseated, dizzy, he is having bowel movements. He is just very tender there and a little soreness in lower abdomen, and the slight bulge in the testicle.

I've never even heard of that - but, I hope everything turns out ok. It sounds painful.

A doctor visit is definitely in order. One possibility is Epididymitis. If that's the case, antibiotics will be necessary. Long soaks in a hot tub will also help. My DH suffered this shortly after his vasectomy.

More info:
Mayo Clinic - Epididymitis

It sounds like it might be an inguinal hernia. My DS had it as a baby and it was surgically repaired.

Whatever it is, a trip to the doctor will ease both of your minds.

Definitely get him to a doctor, by persuasion, nagging, or force if necessary. For heaven's sake, its his sacred private parts - I would think he'd want to be sure everything is alright. If it is a hernia, it definitely needs medical attention. Hernias can, if not taken care of, lead to strangulation of the tissue or organ portion which is protruding through the muscle if the muscle clamps down, and that is very bad news (and painful). Or it could simply be a cyst of some kind, treatable with antiotics or some simple procedure. But definitely get him to a doctor.

My dh had the exact same thing and when he saw the urologist he was told to cut out the caffeine. He cut it down and it resovled itself. If he has to much coffee he starts to feel the ache.

Definitely go to the doctor. Wondering what might be won't help anything.

Sounds like it could be a hernia. My DH just had surgery for an inguinal hernia. He was completely fine, just a little soreness in his lower left abdomen. He went to the doctor thinking he had a bladder infection or something, and it ended up being a hernia. He had the surgery about 3 weeks after finding out about it. On Wednesday, it will be 6 weeks since his surgery and he's doing just fine.
Definitely go to the doctor. If it is a hernia, he might as well get it taken care of before it becomes strangulated and turns into an emergency.

There is so much "stuff' and so much going on down there that what is true for one isn't always the case for another. He needs to see a dr. Ice might work for the pain for now.

We just got back from the doctor. It is not a hernia, the doctor seems to think he has scar tissue that has built up from his vasectomy he had 3 years ago, that over time it has caused a mass or a cyst. We are calling our family dr tomorrow to set up an appointment for an ultrasound.

Good luck with that. Would he need surgery to fix that?

By Mara on Monday, April 16, 2007 - 08:32 am:

You know, the doctor did'nt really say if sugery would happen. He just said to have the ultrasound and go from there. In would think that he would have to have some form of surgery to remove whatever they find....i'm not sure. We'll find out more when we talk to our doc.
