A healthy search site

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2007: A healthy search site

With all the questions that pop up here regarding medical issues, it's too bad we don't have any members who post regularly who have a background in medicine or medical care. (I mean, we've got legal covered, right Ginny? :))

So here is a Website that searches specifically for medical information.

Thanks, Lisa, but no. When it comes to law, I can opine, but that's about it. I looked at the Komando site you recommend and some of the medical sites it links to, and it does look helpful.

For medical sites, these sites are recommended for paralegals (who spend lots of time reviewing medical records and researching treatments and diseases) and I really like them when I want information about a health matter:

Here's the Mayo Clinic's site: Mayo

Here's the Denison Memorial Library web page for medical references, at the University of Colorado, with links to all kinds of medical information sites: Library

Here's a site for checking most know drug interactions, both prescription and OTC: Drugs

And, finally, here's the National Institute of Health: NIH

As a general rule, I use these sites for my personal searches for medical information, and also as a general rule, I try to stick to sites that are .edu - that is, they are sites run by colleges, universities, and medical schools. I generally try to avoid sites run by individual medical practices and/or doctors, and sites touting a particular kind of treatment, because I feel (imo) they may have a profit motive that can color the medical advice given. The Denison Library has links to holistic kinds of treatments as well as "strictly medical" treatment - as you all well know, I'm not personally inclined toward holistic treatments, but I know that some of them do work well and many others may help and do no harm.

I would suggest these be added to favorites or written down somewhere.. Because this thread won't be around forever..

I have them all bookmarked already, Bobbie - that's how I find them so quickly. I love bookmarking sites, and I have them sorted into lots of categories to make them easy to find.

Marked and categorized! :)
