My kids were pepper sprayed this morning...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2007: My kids were pepper sprayed this morning...
By Conni on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 05:54 pm:

They were walking the dogs (our 2 very friendly lick you to death lab's)on leashes and the old man next door was out walking his insane dog. Instead of spraying HIS problem mutt with spray, he sprayed my 2 dogs that were coming towards his... which in turn sprayed both of my CHILDREN in the face??? Crazy old man. He could have turned and walked the other way with his dog too. He had options.

I hear Blake (6) running down the street (i can hear because all our windows are open) crying and crying... When they came in the house they had to rinse their mouths and TAKE SHOWERS. That's how much spray got on them. ick!!! They said our yellow lab was on the ground rubbing her eyes with her paws, she couldnt see, etc... Brad had red all around his eyes and was holding his head/face for awhile. They were miserable.

Never a dull moment here in CR. lol

The man did the same thing last week to my husb. when he was out walking the dogs...dh told me this morning he will be having a chat with the old man.

WOW! I don't know the laws in CR, but couldn't that be considered assault? I would be livid, especially with the kids involved.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 06:11 pm:

I think I would have called the police.. If this wasn't the first time he did it, how many others might he have sprayed??? And I think I wouldn't be walking my dogs in his direction any more. You know he probably is afraid but jesh, he could have handled it a bit differently.. I still think I would get the police involved. At least talk to one of them about it and see if they might talk to him about not using the spray and surely not using it on the children........... Never a dull moment for sure.....

***shaking head***

Some one could end up really hurt.. Some one with asthma, contacts in the eyes.. He could spray the wrong person and they could freak out and injury themselves or god forbid him.... I so hope I am one of those old people that keep it together until I die...

By Melanie on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 06:35 pm:

What????I would definitely call the police and report him. Sounds like assault to me. I cannot believe he would do that to kids. Spraying pepper spray toward a six year old...no way.

By Ginny~moderator on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 07:01 pm:

That is definitely assault, and should be reported to the police.

By Jelygu on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 07:59 pm:

Horrible!

By Vicki on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 09:01 pm:

Oh boy, I KNOW I would have called the police. It would have been very ugly.

By Bellajoe on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 09:27 pm:

That is ridiculous.

Is the old man...with it? I mean is he senile, have alzheimer's or something? Or is he just a crazy old man?

I would suggest calling the police and having them talk to him about this, it's totally unnecessary. I accidentally sprayed myself with the pepper spray once (don't ask how LOL) and it BURNS AND HURTS SO MUCH! I did not get that much on me and I had to take a shower to get it off.

Whats CR?

By Mom2three1968 on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 09:35 pm:

That is totally ridiculous!! I would be furious and want to kill. Poor kids and poor doggies!! I would definately call the police. What is this guy a total nut job?!!

By Trina~moderator on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 09:40 pm:

CR is Costa Rica. That's where Conni is living right now.

By Debbie on Monday, April 2, 2007 - 10:45 pm:

Wow, how horrible! I would definitley call the police. You don't want it to happen again.

By Unschoolmom on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 - 06:28 am:

Another vote for calling the police. That's assault.

By Cat on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 - 07:48 am:

Would the police even do anything there? I can't believe this old guy! I'd be SO mad. Hugs, Girl.

By Mrsheidi on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 - 08:34 am:

What's Spanish for "Say hello to my little friend!"?

Diga hola a mi amigo pequeno! Scarface rules...

On a more sensitive note, I'm SO sorry you guys are enduring this. Have you read the book "Calm My Anxious Heart" yet? I think of you every time I re-read it.

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 - 09:24 am:

The gall of this old man. What is he thinking? Let us know what happens.

By Conni on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 - 10:26 am:

Ok, dh went to his house after work and explained to him that he better not ever pull his *can* out around us again. The man did apologize and felt bad about the kids. The man simply cannot control his dog around other dogs. He actually asked dh if we could set up a schedule where we aren't out walking the dogs at the same time. My dh said 'No, *we* don't have trouble controlling our dogs when we are out with them, so we don't need a schedule?!'

Anyway, looong story short, we will be calling the police if he sprays at our dogs / us again!! We are hoping to be out of this neighborhood by May. So, I hope we can get through April with no problems. I am actually starting my house hunt today. We meet a realtor at 1pm. Of course, it is semana santo (sp?) this week and the whole country shuts down th/fr/sa/su... so we won't find a house this week. lol

Cat, no the police are no help here. :) But it would leave an impression on the man if he had a police car pull up in his driveway.

Heidi, I have not heard of that book. I will look it up though! :)
