Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2007: Safety Recall - Some Maytag & Jenn-Air dishwashers

"Liquid rinse-aid can leak from the dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring, which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard." according to a recall advertisement.

Visit Maytag for complete list. The recall ad I saw was in this weekend's Parade Magazine.

Includes Maytag Model numbers beginning with MDB3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, MDBD, Mdc3,4,5, DWU9; Jenn-Air JDB3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and with specific serial numbers. Visit the web site.

We don't currently own a Maytag dishwasher, but we did own one, when we first moved to Sheboygan, in 1993. We sold it to the neighbor, when we moved into our house, 10 years ago, since the house had a dishwasher. It was a portable dishwasher, but could convert into a built-in, which my neighbor eventually did, since her dishwasher had stopped working, before that.

How long does this recall go back. I don't remember the model number for that dishwasher anymore. Although, in the 3 years we owned it, we never had any trouble, so maybe I don't have to worry.

Our current dishwasher is a kitchenaid that we purchased 3 years ago.

TORONTO, ON – February 1, 2007 – In cooperation with CSA International, Maytag Corp., of Newton, Iowa, is voluntarily recalling approximately 201,540 Maytag® and Jenn-Air® dishwashers sold at department and appliance stores and by homebuilders nationwide in Canada from July 1997 through June 2001 for between $399 and $999 (Cdn). Dishwashers affected by this recall were manufactured in the United States. In some cases, the liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring, which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Maytag has received a report of one confirmed incident in Canada.

The recall involves Maytag® and Jenn-Air® under counter or portable plastic tub dishwashers. The dishwashers have black, white, almond, bisque or stainless steel front panels. The following model and serial numbers are printed on a label located on the dishwasher's plastic frame on top of or to the left of the door opening. Consumers should contact Maytag to determine if their dishwasher is included in this recall.
