My son really messed up my day

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2007: My son really messed up my day
By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 - 08:37 pm:

As I was leaving the house this morning, he announced that while in the shower he had realized that one could sing the words of the hymn, Amazing Grace, to the tune of Gilligan's Island, and it fit perfectly.

As I pulled out of the driveway and down the street, I realized that, heaven help me, he is right - and I can't get it out of my head.

Is this something that he came up with on his own, or did someone else pass on this "valuable" information? LOL!! I am about to leave to go pick up the kids at work. I'll have to try singing it in the car. :)

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 - 11:36 pm:

Ok, now it is in my head! That is hilarious!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 12:15 am:

I can't get my head around the two. I need to hear the gilligan tune with the words of Amazing Grace in front of me. I'm too tired to do it just in my head.

By Crystal915 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 02:08 am:

LOL, I'm with Dawn, I can't make it work in my head.

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 05:50 am:

I made it work in my head by whistling the Gilligan's Island tune while thinking the Amazing Grace words. Sadly, it does work.

By Vicki on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 07:23 am:

I can't make it work either. But I wonder how much time today I will spend trying?? LOL

Does Gilligan's Island start ~ just sit right back and you'll hear a tale.....??

Gilligan lyrics and song file

I was able to get it this morning, but had forgotten one line of Amazing Grace! LOL! I still had to look up the words. It sadly does fit together! LOL! I was really trashed last night and figuring this out, was just too much for my fried brain.

ROFL Ginny!

By Dana on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 08:42 am:

I am doing my absolute best to NOT recall the tune to Gilligan's Island. This is the last thing I want to be humming all day. Please let your son know you have ever so generously passed this little tidbit onto us and you now have MANY women with that song stuck in their heads! LOL.

Every so often I love to put a song into DH's head as he heads to work (usually it's a preschooler song :))

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:17 am:

I'm so glad that I don't really know the tune or words to Gilligan's Island that well. It's not working in my head and i'm not going to force it!

Dana, my dh used to walk around his office humming "Elmo's World" of course the other dad's were the only ones who understood.:)

By Angellew on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:27 am:

ROFL!!!!! That is a great mental picture to start MY day!!!! Thank you and your son!

By Imamommyx4 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:57 am:

Thanks alot, Ginny! LOL

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:48 pm:

Oh, no! LOL! That's funny!

Hey, speaking of Gilligan's Island, we know that Alan Hale Jr. played the Skipper, but did you know that his dad, Alan Hale Sr. was also an actor and father and son looked almost exactly alike?

By Hol on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:59 pm:

Yes Lisa,I knew that. I remember his Dad.

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 10:35 pm:

LOL Hol! I had no idea, and neither did my mom. We watched "Action in the North Atlantic" on TCM on Monday, and I was tickled that I recognized the Skipper. But, it didn't seem right, that the movie was made 20 years before Gilligan, but he didn't look 20 years younger. Because it wasn't him- it was his dad, who died in 1950. LOL!

Here gals, read these words to the tune of Gilligan's Island:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.
