Somebody is happy today :)

Ok, not me LOL...

My foster dog is going to his forever home this afternoon. He is going to a retired couple who just loves him. The lady came over to my house Friday night to visit with him, and she thought he would be just perfect for her family. Her and her husband are both retired, so Remi wont have to be alone for hours on end. They already have a 10 yr old little dog at home as well.
I just called the new family and told the lady she is free to pick him up at anytime she wants. So she said she will be here after 3pm. She was so happy. She was first told it would not be until next week she would be able to get him. I was given the ok to call today. She said she was going out to the petstore to buy him his very own new dog bed..
I have been giving him extra hugs and kisses. He will be surely missed. The lady was so happy when I told him she could come get him today. I am glad I made her day.

Oh, I'm so glad that you did find a home for Remi. He sounded like such a sweet dog.

Thats great!! :) They will love him to death!

The new family should be here any minute. I have a lump in my throat... I have a hard time letting go. I get so attached to all these furry creatures who come to our house. LOL :)

Jackie, that's wonderful news, but I know it's bittersweet for you. Bless your heart. I couldn't foster for the very reason you mentioned...I'd get too attached. Howver, thank the Lord for people like you. It is truly God's work that you do, saving fur babies, and finding them forever homes. It sure sounds like he is getting a good one. I love happy endings! :)

I guess this means that the young guy who came looking at him decided against him? Now this creates an opening for you to save another little guy.

So how did the pick-up go? Like Hol said, you're doing something that many of us aren't able to do and I hope you're blessed for it. You aren't just touching these dogs' lives, but the lives of their forever families', too!

How lucky for your dog, to be going to a forever home!

Hol, the young single guy decided he didnt want a dog at that time. Apparently for 2 days after he visited "Remi" he wanted the dog. On the 3rd day, he called up the Adoption coordinator and said he just found out his girlfriend was pregnant and thought that it wasnt the right time for a dog. We figured it was better to find out sooner then later.
It all worked out, as a lovely older couple got Remi. They came last night around 6pm. The couple came with their 4 yr old grandson. The grandson was more interested in Faiths toys then the dog LOL..
Poor Remi looked so scared to see all these people come in and make a fuss about him.So they all sat on the sofa and talked to him. The man was asking me all kinds of questions about him. Although I answered all the same questions when the lady asked a couple of days ago. I patiently answered them all over again LOL..
Finally when they were ready to leave the lady put the leash on him. Remi turned around and laid back on his favorite doggie bed. The lady could not get him up. I asked her if it was ok if I tried. So I got Remi up and walked them to their car. I gave him one last kiss, and gave the leash back over to the lady.
They promised me they would send me pictures and updates on him.
In about a weeks time I will be getting a new foster dog. She is a hound dog who gave birth to 8 puppies about 2 months ago. The puppies are not at other foster homes. They want me to foster the momma dog after she gets spayed next week. So our house will be full once again :)

Poor Remi. He didn't want to leave. I'm sure he'll have a good life, with the new family.

Probably better that the young guy realized life would be complicated enough, with a baby on the way, than to take the dog and the dog gets neglected. I know that people can take care of a dog and a baby, but someone I know, the dog has really taken a second seat, to their young kids and doesn't get the kind of attention she needs.

That must have been so hard for you! And poor little Remi must have been very confused and scared since he obviously bonded with you. I would have lost it when he went and laid back down on his bed.You wonder what he was thinking. I am close friends with the animal control officer in my town. All three of my dogs and one of present cats came from her. If we are out for a ride, we sometimes stop at the shelter to see Nancy. My dogs STILL love her and remember her, and fall all over her. Remi will remember you as someone who loved him and kept him safe until his new "parents" arrived.

How sweet about the Momma dog that you are getting. At least with Remi placed, it makes room for another one. Boy, there is truly a place reserved for you in Heaven. (((HUGS))).

Have you heard how Remi is adjusting to his new home? I'll bet you miss him. Did you get your Mama dog yet?

By Jackie on Thursday, February 15, 2007 - 07:55 am:

Hol, Yes I have had an update on Remi. The new owners called me and left me a message on Monday. She said Remi is doing great, and how much they love him and how sweet they think he is. She also said "Thank you for taking such good care of him"...
I still miss that old guy.
We have a new foster dog, a coonhound named "Ashley". She is sweet girl, but has had a couple of issues since being here. She has gotten into little tiffs with the other dogs. Some dogs just need to get use to living with other dogs. I think everybody is getting use to everybody else.
She just gave birth 10 weeks ago to 8 puppies. 3 of her puppies have been adopted, the other 5 are still in foster homes.
It makes me realize how easy Remi was compared to this one LOL..
