Has anyone designed their own pantry or laundry room?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2007: Has anyone designed their own pantry or laundry room?

My husband is adding on to our house, and I am just curious as to what some of your pantries or laundry areas look like? I want to design it myself but any help or expeirence in this area would help me out. :) As of now I have big cabinets in my laundry room that house our pantry items and 3 cabinets above the washer and dryer that hold soap and such. With this addition these two rooms will be seperate..YEah!!
I know I would love an ironing board hung in a cabinet on the wall but I haven't thought of much else..LOL

We "designed" our own houseplan. We just told the house plan guy how we wanted things, and he did all of the logistics. We have our washer and dryer on one side, with cabinets above that go to the ceiling (9ft ceiling). Next to the dryer we have a fold out ironing board. It folds up into the wall, and there is a spot in there for the iron as well as a squirt bottle/starch/whatever you use.

Across from the washer and dryer, we have a large open space. This is where we can put those wooden dryer racks to hang jeans on. The heater vent for the room is on that side as well. On the side wall (this is sounding confusing probably, sorry), we have some built in cabinets that go from the floor, up to about 4 feet. There are 6 cabinets total, going across. Inside the cabinets there are hampers. One cabinet is for whites, one is for jeans, one is for bright colors, one for light colors, one for towels, and one for putting things in that you can't decide which cabinet it goes in.

We are just building our house right now, so I can't show pics at the moment, lol. But, give me a couple of months and I will :)

Our laundry room is being built as I type. I have the washer, dryer and a utility sink with cabinets above along one wall, plus a door leading to the soon-to-be family room. Directly across from that are cabinets (our laundry room and pantry will be in the same space), with a counter that runs across waist-high for folding clothes and one half of the cabinets are built-in hampers. The upper cabinets and other half of the lower will be for food and small appliances. One side wall has two doors leading to the yard and garage and the last wall has a door leading to the kitchen and a fold-out ironing board with a small storage space within.

I wish we'd had enough room for drying racks but that would have been less space for the family room. HTH

One thing I love about our pantry is the light that automatically goes on when you walk in the door. It's a small detail, but very handy! :)

When we were building the house, i was going to have the ironing board that comes out of a cabinet in the wall. But i changed my mind because i like to watch t.v. while i iron and that would not have been possible in the laundry room.

Our laundry room is also the mud room. If I stand looking at the washer and dryer i have the dryer in the left and washer on the right and then a utility sink with a small countertop next to it.
I have cabinets all across the top from the dryer to the small countertop. I keep the detergent, spray and wash, etc in those...plus a bunch of odds and ends stuff (lightbulbs, other cleaning supplies, etc)
Under the sink is two doors that open and then right under the countertop is one drawer.
On the other side,we have a closet for our coats, vacuum, mops, laundry baskets (it's a crowded closet :))
We also have a small bench to sit on while putting on shoes and boots. Under the bench is room to store shoes.

We painted it a very pretty sky blue and all the cabinets are white. I love that combo, it's so nice and fresh looking!

Breann yours sounds so nice!

I love my new laundry room. It has the washer and dryer on one side, and next to it is a sink. Above the sink there is a bar to hang clothes. Over the washer and dryer there are cabinets where I keep my laundry detergent, etc. On the other side I have all cabinets. The one on the end is from ceiling to floor. I have my vacuum, brooms, etc in there. Next too it there are cabinets on top, which I keep cleaning supplies, etc. On the bottom there are some cabinets and two pull out hampers. This also gives me lots of counter space for folding. I love the pull out hampers because it keeps the room looking neat. I hope I explained it well.

Thanks everyone! I have so little time to think about how its going to look between work and school I am just crazy! I can totally picture the laundry rooms above, they sound beautiful.
Melanie, I want the auto light also. So when ya walk in with hands full your not stumbling for the light. LOL
I think I may choose a light birch or white for the cabinets...still not sure
