I hope all of you are okay, anyone and everyone affected. I feel for you guys, I hope that you have food and the things you need. Wish that I could help you guys in some way, I'd take some of that snow off your hands in a heart beat, here in St. Louis we're lucky if we get it to snow once in the winter time, and we love snow, it can be beautiful but a nusience as well!! Anyway I hope everyone will be alright!!

ROFL, Kelly! We really are hostages today! It's day two and it's still going strong. The winds blew all night. It looks like it's still snowing (hard to tell with all the blowing!). The 10yo neighbor boy has been here since about 1pm yesterday and he's not going home any time soon. And he only lives about 100 yards away! lol I took a picture of his front porch that I'll post soon (I want to get some more pics--the drifts really are amazing!). No school today of course, and I'm not sure they'll go tomorrow. It's only a half day before the break but I can't imagine us digging out by then, even if it does stop by this afternoon like it's supposed to. Roads and businesses are closed. The only reason I'm up is because the one child care family I was supposed to have this week said they were going to try and get here around 9am. Well, they both work on military bases and all the bases are closed. They barely made it here yesterday to pick their kids up! lol

We have lots of food and really aren't at risk for losing power, so we're just hanging in here and enjoying the show. :) I'd ship you some snow if I could, but you'd probably just get a soggy box. Besides, the post offices are closed! rofl

Yikes! I guess you just have to hunker down and let it snow! One of my co-workers was saying yesterday that things close down in Colorado very quickly, when it snows! Around here, everything tries to stay open and you have 90yo people coming to the clinic, with their walkers, in the snow, when they really should stay home!

This co-worker has a daughter who lives in Colorado Springs. I think people were thinking that more things should close, more quickly, to keep people off the roads. I guess it's just a whole different thing here.

Things do close quickly here when it snows. They don't use salt on the roads, they use sand. They do have a chemical mixture they can put down before it snows that keeps the snow from sticking to the roads, but it only works I think about something like 15 degrees. Our weather changes so frequently that they usually just wait for it to warm up and melt. The problem with this storm/blizzard is the winds. We literally have spots that have NO snow on them--bare ground--and then not two feet away will be a 6' drift. Half our driveway is covered with a 3-6' drift and the other half is absolutely bare. While it is nice not having to worry about salt damage to your car, I wish they had a better way to clear the roads. I think Colorado has one of the highest percentages of chipped/cracked/broken windshields from the sand they use. But on the flip side if you see a car with rust damage you know they're not from here! lol

They're calling this the "Holiday Blizzard of '06".
