By Shann on Monday, December 11, 2006 - 01:46 pm:

I think I need to stay home and not go into town. I went along with 3 of our kiddos we went into Lowes looking for small stakes to put up a fence of Christmas lights. As we are looking at fencing an older man came up to us and said you have a nice family and I said Thank you and we continued looking then this man says that kids today need more disipline. Then he says when his 3 boys were younger he would tell them once and smake them twice if they weren't listening to him or doing what he wanted them too. and I just smiled then he asks what do you want your ds to be. and I told him that I wanted him to succeed in life go to college and do more than what hubby and I did. Meanwhile ds is helping pull out wood for the fencing and bumps the fence post into his sister to which Joshua says sorry and this Man says well I could see him and I would pump heads and I say well you don't have to worry about that he already has a Grandpa he pumps heads with. at this point I am getting a little mad. He then looks at dd who is 5 and he says to her you would be the prettiest girl in the world if you weren't mixed and I didn't hear him say that all I heard was a pretty girl. This Man is still talking and talking ds trips and falls over one of the post and began to cry alittle this older man says oh get up you baby get up you cry baby. if it was me I would yank you up you are being a cry baby and by this time I am so mad all I see is red and I counted to 10 and told this guy excuse me you have NO right to say or do anything to my son I would appricate it if you would shut your mouth and mind your own buisness and I walked off. We were in the car and Dd who is 11 asked Mom what did he mean that Josie was the prettiest girl in the world if she wasn't mixed and I asked are you sure he said that and for the life of me I cannot figure out why he would have said that. My kiddos are mixed raced they are philipino and Indian you would never know by looking at them just they have dark hair and dark skin. and I told her that I think he may be alittle raciest. I was dumb fonded by then. I couldn't belive this. I think I will stay home til after Christmas

I have to say I am sorry for that. Some people today just amaze me the way they talk and act in public. You did a great job controling yourself because I would never have been able to myself.

Don't let 1 cranky old man ruin your holiday. Have a great Christmas!

HO HO HO

That is awful for him to do and say. He has no right. He might have thought that your girl was black and white mixed or something. I am so sorry that your children had to witness someone so rude and ignorant.

What an rude, ignorant jerk. It was none of his business to yell at your son for crying, or to make the racist remark. Sheesh.

You should tell your kids that it's far more the man's problem, than theirs.

Sounds like he needs a hug! :) Poor guy was probably clobbered as a kid.

Shann, you were absolutely right to say what you said to him about your son. I am trying to imagine what you might have said if you had clearly heard what he said about your daughter! What a rude, nasty person.

Don't let a jerk like this run your life - you go where you want to go and do what you want to do, before and after Christmas, and keep on telling people like that just where to get off.

Well, he may need a hug, but my guess is not too many would volunteer if he treats others in such a manner. Personally, I think HE should stay home. No wonder he spends his time hanging around a hardware store, bothering people. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be around such an individual. He is probably friendless.

I'm so sorry, Shann. Hugs to you and your children.

Oh my goodness, I am so very sorry that that happened to you and you children, I cannot believe there are people like that in the world, as everyone said, don't let a jerk like that ruin your holidays, what a pig headed bigot, excuse me but that is how I feel... My little grandson is biracial, he's beautiful, every child is special. How dare he blurt that out in front of your little dd. He definately has issues.
