Ever have one of those days...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: Ever have one of those days...
By Cocoabutter on Friday, December 8, 2006 - 06:19 pm:

...when you should have stayed in bed?

I had to ship out a package that I sold on ebay, and I ran out of packaging tape, so I went to the store to buy some more and mail the package out at the service desk. Before I left, I couldn't find my watch. Oh well, I wasn't going to be gone long, right?

After I mailed out the package, I went back out to my car, and it wouldn't start. Flooded, perhaps?

I walked across the street to the shop where I took my winter coat to have the zipper repaired, and it wasn't ready like the lady said it was going to be.

I went back to my car, and it still wouldn't start.

I went into the store to buy a few groceries. I figured if I let the car sit for a while, it would start later.

They didn't have any sausage that was on sale, so I had to get a brand that I don't like. (Hubby LOVES sausage with breakfast.) And they didn't have my brand of shampoo in stock, either.

My watch would have been nice to have since I had spent more time in the store than I had expected, and I had to be home in time for ds to come home from school.

I spent 45 minutes in the store, went out to my car and it STILL wouldn't start, so I walked the 3 blocks (about a 10 min walk) home in 25-degree weather in my fall jacket cuz my winter coat wasn't fixed carrying 2 bags of groceries and my purse, nearly slipping on the ice twice, crying and wondering why the day had gone so far downhill so quickly.

Trying to cheer up by listening to Christmas music. And venting. Thanks!

I'm sorry. What a rotten day. Did you have anyone tow the car to the garage yet?

{{{HUGS}}}

No, it's still in the parking lot. Dh is a mechanic and he will look at it on his way home tonight.

{{Lisa}} That just plain stinks. I'd be crying too!

By Cocoabutter on Saturday, December 9, 2006 - 10:14 am:

The car was fine- it was just flooded. Dh started it right up, although it wasn't running well until he revved the engine a few times. I have no idea how it happened. One minute it fired up for me, and then the next it died and wouldn't start again. The planets all lined up against me yesterday for some strange reason.

That sounds like a scene taken from a movie. Brrr.

By Bellajoe on Saturday, December 9, 2006 - 03:06 pm:

That really stinks!

I hope today goes better for you! :)

So about that coat that I dropped off to have the zipper repaired?

I had dropped it off on Wednesday Dec 6 in the afternoon. The lady said it would be done the following day.

Thursday I wasn't feeling well, so I didn't go in to pick it up.

On Friday, when my car broke down, it wasn't there.

I went there Saturday, but I got there late- they closed at 1:00 and it was 10 minutes after, and I saw her lock up and get into her car.

I went in on Monday morning, and the guy there said that the lady takes coats home to do the zippers, and she wouldn't be in until later that afternoon. I got busy and didn't go back.

Tuesday afternoon, I called. The guy that answered said that she would be in "any minute now" and he would have her call me. She never called me.

Today I called (one full week later), and lo and behold, my coat is done and ready to pick up. When I got there, another lady waited on me. I told her that the coat was supposed to have been done the next day and asked her why it took so long. She said that the lady who does the zippers got into a car accident and today was her first day back.

(That's still a load of crap, since I saw her leave work on Saturday, two days after my coat was supposed to be finished.)

I tried to be understanding, and said that I would have appreciated a phone call since I have been waiting a whole week for my coat. She said that she had just called me this morning and left a message.

There are no messages on my machine.

So, I have my coat, and it REEKS of cigarette smoke. So now I have to wash it. angry

I am NEVER going back to that place for anything!

I talked to my dh at work a few minutes ago, and he said the phone rang this morning, but he didn't get to it in time to pick it up. ????

Isn't that what an answering machine is for? Good grief. I don't think I would go back there, either.

I have written a letter to the repair shop. Dh said that they will probably just disregard the letter, but it made me feel better just writing it. The problem is that it is an independently owned shop- it's not like there is a corporate office to write to. The first part of it reiterates the sequence of events as I told you all above. Then there's this:

While I am sympathetic that the lady who repairs zippers was in a car accident, it does not explain nor does it excuse the delay in the repair and return of my coat. Since I failed to ask when the car accident occurred, I am assuming that it happened after Saturday, the day I saw her lock up the shop and get into her car. That was two days AFTER my coat was supposed to have been finished.

Furthermore, when I said I would have appreciated a phone call, I meant that I would have appreciated an explanation for the delay in having my coat repaired and returned. If I was told the day I dropped it off for repair that it was going to take a week, that would have been fine. But I was told it was going to take one day, and after checking in numerous times I received absolutely no explanation for why my coat was not ready for me.

To top off my displeasure, my coat smelled of cigarette smoke, which made it necessary for me to wash it before I could wear it. I feel that it is totally inappropriate and disrespectful to return an article of clothing to a paying customer in such a condition.

I am now left with feeling unappreciated as a customer and that service to me and my repeated visits and inquiries about my coat were of least importance to your business. I have paid in full for my zipper repair, and I am satisfied with the repair. However, due to the poor customer service I received I will not be returning to your establishment for any future work, and I feel free to mention my experience to anyone who asks me where to go for repair services.

Sounds good to me. You are cool, calm and collected and I definitely get your point.

By Ginny~moderator on Friday, December 15, 2006 - 09:49 am:

Good letter, Lisa. You might want to add something about the dishonesty of the employees in telling you why the delay occurred and unkept promises as to when it would be ready.
