How Do You Clean an Iron Surface??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: How Do You Clean an Iron Surface??
By Kate on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 - 12:36 pm:

My iron has that nonstick surface like many frying pans have. I ironed some adhesive and some of it got stuck and smeared on the iron. Can I use rubbing alcohol on it? It no longer glides smoothly along fabric and it smells bad. Any ideas? Thanks!

Rubbing alcohol won't hurt it. See what it says on the GooGone label as to whether you can use it on a non-stick surface, but I'd sure rinse it off very carefully afterwards.

Household remedy's I've used, my grandmother did salt on brown paper bag with hot iron.

My son's father showed me how that you can use a brillo pad ( make sure you rinse after using).

Dandjmom, I've used a brillo pad on a metal face iron, but I don't think you can use it on a non-stick iron. I would really try GooGone if the rubbing alcohol doesn't work, or try a safe (i.e., nylon) scrubber on the surface when the iron is cold to see if it will rub it off. These non-stick surfaces are great, but sometimes they are a problem, and this is undoubtedly one of those times.
