Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: Public Safety Notice

I'm not sure that if it is ok to post this here, but this is an email that we just received at work from our director himself. It it belongs else where on the board please move. but I just wanted to past on the warning to everyone friend and family.

Government Warning regarding purchase of UPS uniforms:

There has been a huge purchase, $32,000 worth, of United Parcel Service (UPS) uniforms on eBay over the last 30 days. This could represent a serious threat as bogus drivers(terrorists/criminals) can drop off anything to anyone with deadly consequences! If you have ANY questions when a UPS driver appears at your door they should be able to furnish VALID I.D.

Additionally, if someone in a UPS uniform comes to make a drop off or pick up, make absolutely sure they are driving a UPS truck. UPS doesn't make deliveries or pickups in anything, except a company vehicle. If you have a problem, call your local law enforcement agency right away!

TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY! Tell everyone in your office, your family, your friends, etc. Make people aware so they can avoid becoming a potential victim.

Thanks Emily7, I just read the article and while reading got a revised email from personell. This is really sad that there are people otu there that wold put something like thsi out to play on peopels fears. I mean this makes me feel really bad, because it gives the false inpression taht I am into this sort of thing and that is the surthest from the truth. I guess regardless where you get your information from you have to double check it and not take anythign at face valuse these days. below is a copy of the revised e-mail that I received. Again I am so sorry.

Although initial sources issuing the BOP-wide warning we received about UPS uniforms were well intended, the content is actually that of an "urban legend" as indicated by the following website:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl-ups-uniforms.htm

We apologize for any inconvenience or alarm this might have created. However, in our current post 9/11 environment, a heightened sense of awareness is in good order both at the workplace and home. Due to the nature of the times we live in, this is what really empowers these "myths."

Stay safe!
