Do you ever notice how teenagers....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Do you ever notice how teenagers....

talk? Ok, girl teenagers. They have (and I'm sure I did this too) an ability to raise the pitch at the end of every sentence and say "like" a million times....urgh.

I feel old, yet seasoned, yet annoyed...I love teenagers, but it takes them an hour just to tell a story. Sometimes the teacher just needs the Cliff's Notes.

My younger daughter is very guilty of that, and is at the same time very aware of it! Her 8th grade social studies teacher complained about it often! I know that even I'm guilty of it sometimes! LOL!

When were you around a gaggle of girl teenagers, recently? I feel that way about my patients sometimes that feel that they need to give me the whole life story of their illness. I can't write it all down. We don't get enough space. I mostly want to know what is bothering you today!

Uh-oh....I say 'like' all the time and my DH says it takes me forever to get the story told. :)

My 15 year old is just like that! She says "like" every other word! It drives me crazy. After she finally finishes telling a story she also adds, "it was so weird" or "it was so funny".

In high school we had a teacher that insisted we NOT say "like" unless it was meant to be in the sentence.

If you said "like" or "stupid" or "maaaan!" or "dude" any other teenager term that he couldn't stand (and i can understand why he didn't like them) you had to write the summary at the end of the chapter in our history books!

I'm still guilty of saying "like" and "totally" :)

I still keep in touch with a lot of my old students and they call me, asking for advice. It's great to have that trust, and I don't tell them what I'm thinking, but it's just something that I've noticed more and more. LOL! :) I'm getting old.
