I swear I had seen someone started a thread on this not to long ago. But of course I can't find it. Do you just do it as always and keep them warm in the crockpot. Anything else I need to know? I am mash potatoes for dd's class thanksgiving dinner tommorrow and this is the best way I can think to keep them warm. Thanks.

The crock pot will work :)

I use the crock pot to keep solids warm and I use the coffee maker to keep my liquids warm(gravy)

Trina, that's a great idea for the coffee maker! I tried making my mashed potatoes as usually and keeping them warm in the crockpot last Easter and I was thrilled with the results. They stayed hot.

Don't they dry out? Do you add extra liquid?

I think my sister made mashed potatoes in the crockpot and they were delicious!

By Colette on Monday, November 20, 2006 - 04:02 pm:

No, they don't dry out.

if ur are really concerned about them drying out put a lil water int he bottom of the crock pot and put some foil on top of it and then insert the bowl of taters and turn it on to keep them warm till ready to serve... ive seen this done before.

Ditto Colette-I've never had mine dry out either.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks! :)

Putting them in the CP was wonderful! We were able to get then done early and forget about the pots until dinnertime! Thanks! I will do this every year from now on!

I'm glad it worked well for you! I always remember my grandma making the mashed potatoes and gravy, at the very end (while our pre-poured milk got warm! Why did she always have to pour our milk, so far ahead of when we ate. It was never ice-cold anymore!)

I ended up doing it to and it worked out well. The trick is not to use to much moisture or they will be soupy from the crockpot. You use cream cheese and sour cream. They were very good.
