The groundbreaking ceremony for the Martin Luther King Memorial on the Washington Mall was held today. The Memorial is sited between the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials.

In his remarks at the ceremony, President Bush said a very profound and true thing about the MLK Jr. Memorial and its location. The President said, "It will unite the men who declared the promise of America and defended the promise of America with the man who redeemed the promise of America."
