Hottest toys this year - or What is on your kids' wish list?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Hottest toys this year - or What is on your kids' wish list?
By Sunny on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 09:28 am:

This is the first year that there is only one "must have" toy at my house and that's the Nintendo Wii. It is coming out on the 19th of this month, and since it will be a belated birthday gift, we will have it long before Christmas morning. (Shhh...don't tell my kids, but I'm really looking forward to playing the Wii, too. :) )

What are your kids asking for?

By Rayanne on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 09:37 am:

Rylee want a camera. She can actually take some good pictures. We are thinking of the fisher price one, but the quality of the pictures, isn't great so I don't know yet.

She also keeps asking for a baby sister, so we got her the Baby Alive. It's a s close as I can get to the real thing for now.

By Conni on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 10:56 am:

One of mine actually needed and wanted a full basic drum set to practice on for Christmas. When we were leaving his drum lesson on Tuesday night I told him to go pick out the color he wanted, paid for them and told him Happy EARLY Birthday. lol He was pretty pumped. His bday is in 2 weeks. Of course his teacher was thrilled because he was needing my ds to be able to practice at home...

So now he wants an Ipod Nano for Christmas like his brother has.

My other ds *was* wanting a PSP but has not mentioned it in awhile so that may changed to something else. lol

My youngest thank goodness is still happy with anything! As long as it isnt girly. lol We tried to get him a Barbie boogie board the other day and his face was beat red and he was very angry with us for teasing him. lol

What is the Nintendo wii?? I am always out of the electronic loop my kids have to fill me in on everything. lol

I had a Baby Alive when I was little!! :) I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Then when we got older (10 yrs or so)we fed her sick twisted things...My sisters and I were a little orinary... lol I am getting paid back for all the horrible things I did growing up- my 3 boys have thought of things I never could have imagined. ha

By Dawnk777 on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 10:57 am:

I don't know. We already got Sarah the Canon S3 IS that she wanted and certainly deserved, as into photography as she is. She mostly wants cds and dvds.

Emily would like Breyer model horses. She pointed out Barbaro, the other day.

By Kaye on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 11:01 am:

My boys want a Wii, so they will all get that as a group gift and a couple of games. My dd wants something called zounds.

By Pamt on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 11:13 am:

Oldest DS wants a digital camcorder and a digital camera. He will not be getting both--LOL.

Youngest DS just wants "football stuff." That's an easy one!

By Karen~admin on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 11:48 am:

Obviously mine are older, so what they what ISN'T toys.......

Jen wants a digital camera.
Jeff, I am sure, wants a guitar, but dear old Mom can't afford that
Jason -who knows.......his wants are minimal, and I gave him a great gift last year - a JVC home theatre system, not sure what he's getting this year
Jules - no clue.....though I have some jewelry in mind
Mads - no clue there either - she gets so much stuff. I do have a Discovery Toys thing I bought recently and plan on giving her.

Plus, Jen and Jules have b'days in December, and Mads and Jason are in January.

I did just order 2 games - Mad Gabs and Boxers or Briefs. They love to play those sort of games, so I'll give those to 2 of them.

By Tarable on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 11:55 am:

Mine are at that horribly awkwark age for girls that they can't figure out if they want toys or "grown up" stuff..

Alexis really wants to make her room cool so I am planning on buying her stuff for her room and maybe a digital camera.

Jordan on the other hand I have no idea with she will end up wanting. It changes every other day! Sometimes she wants cool games for the PC and other days she wants dolls or something like that.

It is hard when we are still buying for their birthdays this month to figure out what to get for Christmas.

By Emily7 on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 11:55 am:

Both my kids so far have gotten the Fisher Price Camera & the FP3 player. I am not sure what else to get them.
I know that my mom is getting Livie the Baby Alive doll for either her birthday or Christmas (3 days apart).

By Tripletmom on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 12:40 pm:

Mine wants everything on every commercial right now-LOL

By Luvn29 on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 01:09 pm:

Tarable, I am so with you there! My dd is 10. A very difficult age, because toys don't interest her. She loves clothes, but I feel bad getting her just clothes, when she'll get those anyway!

She has no idea, though she's wanted one forever, but we got her the HP digital camera and printer combo. You can dock your camera and print pictures from anywhere, it doesn't need a hook-up to the computer. I know she's going to love this. She also wants a pottery wheel! LOL!

Ashton wants the Gameboy DS. He doesn't know he's getting it, but he wants it so much! With his broken collar bone, I really wish he had it now!

By Tonya on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 02:16 pm:

Jade wants a TV for her room and Santa is bringing that. Timmy wants the Nintendo Wii but we do not do video games in our house. We have oldschool Nintendo (the first one) and we have Atari (mine from my youth) and we have Sega (mine again) and he has the old style Game Boy.

He is also getting some stuff for his go-kart a firesuit and gloves and neck restraint.

Jade is getting dress up toys and Timmy is getting some models and a dinosaur dig kit.

By Luvn29 on Friday, November 10, 2006 - 03:31 pm:

Tonya, I have to ask you this. You say you guys don't do video games in your house, but you obviously did when you were younger because you still have two game systems from your youth. Since you were allowed to have them as a kid, what made you decide not to allow your kids to have them?

I'm just curious. We don't keep up with all the new systems. Our latest is the GameCube, and the kids just got that last year. They don't play it much, and have never asked for a newer system, besides Ash wanting the new Gameboy. So I understand not doing that, but I was just wonderimg what made you decide that?

By Debbie on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 08:46 am:

My oldest, who is almost 9, wants a chemistry set and Heelys. My youngest, who is 6, wants Star Wars figures, and the Kodak Kid's Camera. They both want the Nerf dart tag set. Dh and I are suprising them with a computer. Our destktop fried last year, and we have just my laptop. I won't let them load all their games on it, so they have been bummed about not having one. They also want a few computer games. Dh and I are getting them a computer. And then, between us, my parents, and my brother they are getting the other things. Now, that they are getting older, they are starting to ask for just a few things that they really want. It definitely makes Christmas shopping easier.

By Mia on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 09:55 am:

Our 9yo wants a bowling ball & bag and lots of stuff from the Steve Spangler Science website/catalog. Plus a venus fly trap & hermit crabs, lol. 5yo wants G.I. Joe & army stuff. Youngest will get Fisher Price little people or Geo Trax stuff. Nothing is really "must have" this year. No mention of Wii or the TMX Elmo :) Oldest has asked for Nintendo DS PSP, but not gonna happen :)

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 01:35 pm:

That FP Kids camera is cute, but at only 640 by 480 resolution, I agree that the quality of the pictures, isn't going to be there.

On the other hand, it looks like it could take a licking and keep on "ticking", if you get my drift!

By Debbie on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 02:52 pm:

Dawn, I got that camera for my ds. He LOVES taking pictures, but isn't old enough for a real camera. I know the picture quality isn't great, but I don't think he will care. I don't know why I thought it was a Kodak....oh well.

By Emily7 on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 03:27 pm:

I agree Debbie, we bought the camera for our two to keep them from getting ours & to get them started in taking pictures. We bought them a cheap $15 camera & it was broken in a days time.
I know they will love it & have tons of fun.

By Bellajoe on Saturday, November 11, 2006 - 07:42 pm:

Dd is 7 and doesn't really know what she wants. We looked on Amazon.com/ToysRUs.com today and made a wish list. She was mostly interested in beads for bracelets and crafty type stuff, computer games, a stamps set and a Barbie

Ds is going to be 6 next week and pretty much wants anything on the commercials! He loves Dinosaur books, and books he can read (he is just learning how to read and loves it) puzzles and Legos and really wants this way over priced Go Diego Go playset.

There really isn't one "I've got to have it!" gift for either of them.
Last year they "HAD TO HAVE" scooters. So Santa left a scooter for each of them under the tree. That was a fun surprise on Christmas morning! :)

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 01:01 am:

I was at Wally World tonight, and DH and I just happened to walk down the FP aisle at the store. We saw the little camera. It's cute! DH liked how it had the big handles on both sides, so that the kid could hold it nice and steady.

By Crystal915 on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 01:26 am:

I honestly have no idea what to get my kids this year. They aren't asking for anything, and certainly don't NEED any toys, so I'm at a loss. Repeat that for pretty much everyone on my list, and I'm in big trouble. The only person whose gift I have picked out is my friend Meegan, and even that might change, because I was going to get her the wet to dry hair straightener I have, but she cut her hair short before she went to NTC this last month. UGH!!!!!

By Conni on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 08:11 am:

Sunni, a guy brought us some magazines from the USA when he came from the home offices for a business trip last week. In the stack was a mag. called 'Test'. It was full of electronics It had the Nintendo Wii in it as the *Editors pick*! ;)

Just thought I would share.

(the man also brought my 6 yo's Superman lunch box and filled it full of hershey's chocolate, and he brought me some swiffer pads for my swiffer max and several other things!!! lol) Everyone at my husbands work is always sooo kind! I am very thankful... :)

By Nanaoie on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 06:51 pm:

May I ask where you all are finding the Nintendo Wii ? I have a good friend who is looking, it's nowhere to be had. All the stores here have all of theirs pre ordered, and they won't have any more.

By Kaye on Sunday, November 12, 2006 - 08:01 pm:

I haven't found one yet. But best buy doesn't do preorders, it is first come first serve. I believe I will have to camp out. However if the news is correct there will be plenty of nintendo units. the ps3 is coming out with about 10% of the stock. So I am hoping the hype is with that and not my wii!

By Sunny on Monday, November 13, 2006 - 09:27 am:

I preordered the Wii back in October when Gamestop announced they would begin taking orders. I was #6 in line for the preorder, so I'm very hopeful that I will be able to get one when it comes out this Sunday. My kids are more informed than I am, but I have been getting Google alerts on it since the release date was announced! LOL

Walmart has it advertised in their circular this week and will start selling it at 12:01am, 11/19. Toys R Us took preorders at one time, too, but I don't know if they still are. After the release, I'm sure all the major stores that carry the system will have units available or will take orders for them. From what I've heard, there should be enough units produced that finding one shouldn't be too hard.
