Clothes questions, deciding what colors look best together.

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Clothes questions, deciding what colors look best together.
By Tn_Mom on Thursday, November 9, 2006 - 10:27 pm:

I’m trying to expand my wardrobe with more dressy type clothing, so I would like some input on what colors would look best together.

I bought a silver blouse and a gold blouse a few days ago. They both have sparkles on them like glitter, but it’s not glitter. Other than black, what color pants would look good with these blouses?

I also bought a nice solid black blouse. It has a design on it which is also in black. What would be the best color pants to wear with this solid black blouse? I'm thinking maybe burgundy or plum color pants.

I have a nice pair of navy blue pants and a nice pair of dark gray pants. They are not dress pants, but they are dressy enough.
What color blouses would look best with dark gray pants?
What color blouses look best with navy blue pants? I think red, burgundy, or something with navy in it looks best, but what else would do you think?

There is also a blouse in a magazine that I'm thinking about buying, it is a long sleeve yellow blouse with flowers around the collar and around the bottom of the arms. So my question is, is it okay to wear yellow in the wintertime? Also is okay to wear khaki pants in the wintertime? I don’t see anything wrong with it, but some of my friends don’t agree, so I wanted more opinions on this.

Thank you for any help that you have.

Welllll, I'm certainly no fashion expert, so take my opinions lightly. :)

I would think your silver blouse could go with navy pants, as well as the black. I'm not as sure with gold....

With a black blouse I would go with the right shade of gray, or the same color black. Khaki or tan would also be fine, and I DO wear khaki pants all winter long.

With dark gray pants I'd pair them with a blue, burgundy, red, or maybe silver blouse? And a purple or pink or white blouse would be pretty, too.

Navy goes with so much....white, hunter green, pink, cream, yellow, etc.

I do think of spring or summer with yellow flowers, but if it's long sleeved you can probably get away with it. Do you live in a warm climate? I'd probably hold off on that blouse until March...altho you can certainly wear it anytime if you wish and you will probably brighten up the dreary winter days in it!

I, personally, don't follow any rules on when to wear what colors. I don't even think they exist anymore!

I don't wear many colored pants. I tend to stick to browns, greys, and black. I have tan/khaki dress pants that I wear year round.

I love light pink with grey. I tend to wear my colors more on top, rather than in my pants. However, I do have colorful skirts. I love the new turquoise and brown look that is out right now. I have a couple of sweaters in those two shades. i think they look great together. I wear those sweaters with my brown and tan dress pants. I also love yellow with black. I think light colors with black look great. But then again, I find I wear red a lot with black. I like bold colors with black. I really love black. I think there is so much you can do with it, and almost anything looks good with it.

I would think different shades of blues would look good with the navy pants, though I don't know for sure because I have never had navy pants.

My advice is to wear your pants to a store, and take several colors into the dressing room and see what YOU like. People have different styles, and prefer different looks. Have fun with it! Wear what makes YOU feel good!

Black dress pants are a staple in my wardrobe . They go with almost everything.

A darker brown looks nice as well. I'm not much for a medium brown pant....I'd rather go with a khaki.

The gold blouse would be pretty with black pants. Same with the silver. Black adds a touch of class, without over doing it.

I think that the black top would be nice with khaki colored pants, unless it's a dressy top...then I don't know what I would put it with, lol.

Have you seen the layers shirts? I love to put them under almost anything to add a touch of style. You could pair the black top with black pants (make sure it's the same color of black) and add a layers shirt under it to break up the black.

I think white blouses would be pretty with both gray and navy pants. Very crisp looking.

OK, that's all of my thoughts. Of course it's all JMHO :) Nothing expert or anything, lol.

I like a hot red with dark gray, myself.

Grey pants--navy, red, burgandy, pink, beige, white, black, green, anything really. Grey is a neutral and almost anything will look good with it.

Navy--same rule. It is a building block and almost anything will look good with it, even including yellow, pink, all shades of green, etc. Just no black.

The gold blouse would also look nice with navy pants and maybe even the right shade of brown.

The silver blouse could go with grey for a monochromtic look, but also with navy, black, red, etc.

I'm hopeless when it comes to combining colors! I have the standard black and I usually just do that. If I'm wearing black pants I'll wear colour, if I'm wearing any other colours for pants, then I'll wear a colour that is close to the same as what I'm wearing, if I don't have that colour I'll wear a black, white or beige shirt.

I have some nice clothes, just have no idea how to coordinate them. I need a fashion expert to go through my closet with me and lay out everything I own that I could put with everything else. Pictures of my clothes with what they coordinate with would be nice. lol

I had thought that many different colors could go with the grey and navy blue. But when I'm picking something out to wear, I'll think that it doesn't look right together. I would say that the black blouse that I just bought is a bit dressy but not too dressy. So it could be worn casually or dressy, I would think. I really don't like the color brown, so I don't have anything brown in my wardrobe. I do wear a lot of different color pants, but they are usually a matching outfit.
