Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Dave Ramsey???

Anyone listen to him? Anyone follow his financial advice? What are your thoughts about him and what he teaches?

By Mommyof5 on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 - 12:28 pm:

Dh and I took a 13 week long class through our church last year titled Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. Dave gives sound advice, his mantra is get yourself totally out of debt and NEVER get back into it again. When we were in the class I thought to myself that I "know" the things he is telling me but I just haven't always applied them.

I used to listen to him. But after a while it gets redundant. When dh decided to go to college, we were very deeply in debt. I supported him to go to college and never said anything to him about my worries. I thought we'd lose our house and cars while he was in school. But that was when I started listening to Dave Ramsey. I gritted my teeth and started paying as much as I could on the smallest debt first and got rid of it while paying barely more than the minimum on the others. When the smallest was paid, I used the amount I was paying on the first to add to the second. And so on.
By the time dh graduated, I had paid off the cars and all of our other debts except the house and never missed a payment on the house.

I never have done the envelope thing. I just pay the bills, tithe 10%, save 10% and whatever left is fun money.

this is who I listen to on the weekends. A lot of time it is background noise, but he gives a lot of really sound financial advice http://www.bestmoneyinfo.com/
