I'm going to be getting one. I'm eligible for childcare subsidy where I live, and for the last few months I've been paying full rates while they figured out my eligibility (again). Well they're done! I'm going to be getting the money back by the end of this month.

I'm buying myself a birthday/Christmas present combined, although it will be for my teenager, too. This is it...

Catherin, my mom's first non-human dishwasher was a portable, because there was no room for a built-in. She used it for 15 years, and loved it.

She didn't get the mechanical dishwasher until after both my brother and I had married and left home.

We used a portable dishwasher, for the first 3 years that we lived in Sheboygan. It worked great, since we were only renting there.

When we moved into our house, we sold it to the neighbor, who used it as a portable for a little while, but eventually had it installed as a regular built-in dishwasher. As far as I know, it's still working (but I haven't talked to her in a while!)

short story about dishwashers. we moved to calif and found a house with out the kids. then we started moving and the kids excited asked do we have a dishwasher? i said yeah two of them. they gave me this funny look but accepted itand was excited. this bugged my daughter a bit and so when we first got the door open to them she ran to the kitchen and yelled wheres the dishwasher at? i told her that they were in the kitchen. she says im in there ..so we walk into the room and son follows and i point to them and say one two .. they were so mad at me ... kiinda ruined the mood for moving in. they didnt like that house very much.
