Who makes the best fitting jeans?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Who makes the best fitting jeans?
By Jtsmom on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 03:42 pm:

For someone my size that is!! Size 14. I have a hard time finding jeans that fit me well. Any recommendations?

By Kaye on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 03:50 pm:

depends what you are wanting to fit :)

In my experiences....lee jeans tend to run a bit small, have the smallest waist. Old Navy makes well cut jeans, if you can still find the regular waist and not the ultra low waists!

In general Oprahs jeans rules are this..LOL. Darker jeans, straight legs (no tapers), boot cut if you are tall. Don't get the white wash anywhere you think is big, like big thighs don't look good highlighted! Also fit your butt, then have the waist taken in to fit.

I have always been a 14-16 and have always loved Chic jeans.

By Emily7 on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 04:08 pm:

I have found that I like Just My Size jeans.

By Amecmom on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 04:55 pm:

For me - large butt, small waist and huge thighs I found Walmart's Faded Glory Classic to fit the best - and I can't beat the price - This coming from someone who only wore designers before kids.

I'm a 14 now but I love Lane Bryant's jeans. I have a small waist, narrow-ish hips and a big backside but smaller thighs and I can always find a pair that fits. Most of them are flattering to a curvier figure since that's who they are made for. They aren't very cheap but not designer-priced either. I can pick up a pair for around $50 and often there is a coupon online that can be printed out to save a little.

I just spent months trying to find the right jeans. I was wearing Fashion Bug LA Blues classic and they discontinued them. I have actually found the newer Lee jeans to fit the best, they have several different styles, including the stretch. I can't remember the name but they sit at your natural waist and are roomier through the thigh with a staight leg, love 'em. Now I won't wear any that don't have the 5% spandex.

By Breann on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 05:35 pm:

Silver brand jeans are great. Fit like a glove. I've also found that Maurices brand jeans fit and wear well also. I believe they carry up to size 16 now.

By Jtsmom on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 06:28 pm:

Thank you everyone, I spent the WHOLE day trying to find a pair of jeans that would fit me right, but came up empty handed. I will try some of the brands yall are talking about.

By Karen~admin on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 06:33 pm:

Ditto Breann! Jen and I LOVE Silver brand jeans. We've been getting some fantastic deals on eBay.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 06:45 pm:

I bought some stretchy denim capris, in summer of 2005. I've worn them out. :( I'll have to find something different next summer. They were so comfy.

There is a fashion lady on about.com. I emailed her and didn't expect an answer but she wrote back! I explained my body shape to her and my size and she recommended jeans for me. But I have a looong rise and most jeans ride up really bad. I'll see if I can find her email if anyone is interested or maybe you can search about.com for how to find the best fitting jeans.

If I wear a 14 what size would that be in the Silver brand? I check them out on E-bay, but they don't use the same size chart. They use, for example: 29/32

By Karen~admin on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 09:56 am:

waist size in inches, length in inches

By Andi on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:48 am:

I love Ann Taylor Loft Jeans. The have streach in them and they are so comfortable. It's really all I wear when it comes to jeans.

By Mrsheidi on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 08:49 pm:

I can only wear Gap jeans. I'm short and they have a soft spandex type feel and they don't feel too tight. I fit into an 8 but I think they are lying...I really think I'm a 10. I have a bigger belly than I used to and fairly slender hips and thighs. But, when I was larger, I still bought Gap jeans.

By Trina~moderator on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 08:59 pm:

I don't think there is a definitive answer to this. LOL! We all have different body shapes and preferences, therefore different brands will fit different people differently. Does that make sense?! LOL!

My current favorites:
Levis
Levis 542s (low rise flares}

I also like my Lee midrise bootcuts, and have a pair from Victoria's Secret that I like.

I have a hard time finding jeans that fit because I have a long torso but short legs.

Where do they sell Silver jeans? I've never heard of them or seen them in stores.

By Colette on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 09:58 pm:

I went jean shopping tonight - I must have tried on 15 pairs and didn't buy any. I did buy 3 new shirts and a pair of boots that will look great with whatever jeans I end up with.

for the 40 something crowd - stirrup jeans and cowl necks are back in style - I almost died when I saw the stirrups...

Trina - we have the same taste in jeans, what kind of Victoria's secret jeans do you like?

By Trina~moderator on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:00 pm:

Did some surfing...

Wow, these Silver jeans are really cute! WISH I looked like the model. LOL!

I'm also curious about the sizing. How can they only go by inseam length? How do they run, Karen?

By Tripletmom on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:22 pm:

LOL-I remember stirrups :) My legs were always too long to fit into any properly.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:41 am:

They go by waist size and inseam, just like men's jeans. I only wear low rise, stretch jeans. In Gap jeans, I wear a 4 or 6 Long (or if I'm wearing with higher boots/shoes, an X-Long), in Silver Jeans I wear a 29, with at least a 33 inseam. I just got some on eBay that are a 29/35 that fit GREAT and I wore some sandals with them with 3" wedge heels and they *just* touched the ground. I paid $15.50 on eBay!!

Once you know your size in Silver jeans, you can pretty much count on it to be true. When I bid on Silver jeans on eBay, I check the Silver Jeans site for the fabric content, rise, and price (they are PRICEY if you buy them new!!!!), before I bid.

I've only bought one pair new at The Buckle, and I paid $58 for them, 3 or 4 years ago. I'm still wearing that pair of jeans. They are pretty much the only jeans that fit Jen right, so we are constantly looking on eBay for them.

I just won a pair on eBay that looked so much better on Jen than it did on me, I gave them to her. :-)

By Trina~moderator on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:43 am:

Oh, sorry Colette. I didn't see your post until this morning. I have two pair of Blue London jeans from VS - Hipster and "V" cut. I happened to find them in the Sale/Clearance section online last year.

I knew leggings were back, but stirrup pants, too?! I wore them with tunic sweaters in the 80s.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:46 am:

BTW, Dillards carries them, Macy's might too - we don't have Macy's anymore since Katrina - places like The Buckle, Gadzooks, Hot Topic.........more of the *younger person* stores, so taking Jen shopping is how I found them.....

By Karen~admin on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:48 am:

Trina, me too!!! ROFL

By Trina~moderator on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 05:00 pm:

Get a load of this. LOL! Check out the price. Yowza!

New Silver Jeans

By Karen~admin on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 05:55 pm:

Yea, I just lost a bid on some of those on eBay. LOL There's a style or 2 that go for $120!!!!
*That* is why I shop eBay! I got 3 pairs of Silver jeans in the mail today - 2 for me and 1 more for Jen. I didn't pay more than $17 for any of them. :-)
