Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Scott is coming home either Thurs or Friday!! :)
By Mrsheidi on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 08:55 pm:

It's been 11 months and he'll go back after 2 weeks, but we're on the homestretch!! (He'll be back for good April '07.)

I've been so busy trying to get the house set up and the food ready!! We've also been without sleep here...Connor is sick again and woke up at 5am and wouldn't nap, which is very rare for him. So, today was one of the hardest days, especially since there's so much to do. I'm going to sleep soon so I can get some sleep myself.

Anyone have a good recipe that you can freeze and reheat in a jiffy? I'll only have 2 hours notice when he arrives, so I want to make something Thursday and freeze it.

:) Connor is going to be SO excited!!! I keep trying to tell him that Daddy's going to be home soon but I don't think he quite comprehends it.

By Amecmom on Tuesday, October 31, 2006 - 09:11 pm:

Heidi, that's wonderful. You are so often in my thoughts and prayers.
Do you have a crock pot? I take a pork loin roast, sear it in olive oil and seasoning and then just put it in the crock pot with a can of broth when I'm expecting my parents who fly in from Italy or drive in from Virginia and I have no idea when they'll arrive. This way the food is hot and yummy. If you don't have one, could you borrow one - or even buy one? They are really great.

I'm not great with make ahead and freeze stuff. I'm sure others will have ideas for you.

I know it's hard when they're sick. We just went through a bout of it here, if you read. I think we're starting on a second cycle of sickness, too.

Helen woke up in the middle of the night and would not go back to sleep. So, I put her in her play yard and put on a work out video. I worked out, she played until she was tired and then I brought her to bed.

Hang in!
Ame

Heidi, that's wonderful news!! It will be a wonderful time of reunion for all of you. Scott is in my prayers daily along with many other soldiers that I pray for. Let us know when you hear about the time of his arrival.

Wow, it seems like just yesterday, that my co-workers husband came home on leave, last March! He came home for good, in August.

You must be so excited!

By Reds9298 on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 07:57 am:

I'm so happy for you!!!!!!!

By Colette on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 08:33 am:

you must be counting the hours!

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 08:43 am:

I'm so excited for you both!!!!

How about a lasagna? You can make that and freeze it and then just pop it in the oven when he gets home.

WHOOOO HOOOO!!!!! :) I can't wait to get the post where you say
"He's coming home TODAY!" :)

By Breann on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 10:27 am:

Yay!!! I'm so excited for you! I know this has been so hard for you. He's been gone 11 months already?? Wow! Enjoy your time with him!

We love the stouffers frozen lasagne. It's really really good. Takes 2 hours to bake.

By Kernkate on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 12:45 pm:

{{{Heidi}}} I am so happy for all of you! Wait till Connor sees him:)

By Dandjmom on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 01:07 pm:

I'm happy for you also, the stouffers lasagne is great. Just had it for dinner last night.

I also second what Jewlz said, we dont 'wnat to see you around here until after Scott is gone, spend your time productivley, and have lots and lots of fun.

So tell your SS that you will be MIA for the next two weeks.

By Debbie on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 01:13 pm:

How exciting for all of you!

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 04:01 pm:

Wow, I am sure it didn't seem fast to you, but man did that 11 months go fast for me!! I can't believe it has been that long already. Have a great time for your 2 weeks and enjoy!! I hope it isn't harder for you and Connor to let him go again after this!!

By Insaneusmcwife on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 04:28 pm:

I'm very excited for you guys :) I agree frozen lasagne works great. Our favorite is the vegetable lasagne. Then you won't have to worry about making a mess preparing the meal and you can focus on other things. How exciting!!!!

By Nicki on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 05:55 pm:

Oh, I'm so excited for all of you!!! :-) I'll bet he's counting every minute, too.

By Tink on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 06:24 pm:

Do you have a timer set to count down the minutes??? I imagine that would be difficult but I'd be tempted. :)

I'm with Ame, trying something in the crockpot. I'm not a huge fan of reheating something frozen but the crockpot can be so convenient and it's great for giving something that homemade taste, which I'm sure Scott has missed. Enjoy every minute of the next two weeks! {{{All three of you}}}

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 08:10 pm:

I hope it is a happy homecoming! Congratulations!

A casserole is a good one for tossing in the oven for an hour. Just mix it up a day or two before.

By Missbookworm on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 10:15 pm:

That's such wonderful news Heidi!

Enjoy every minute of the next two weeks! (I know you will)

(((((((((((((( All of you )))))))))))))))))

Is today the day??????

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 09:06 am:

I haven't heard anything except yesterday he said he was in Kandahar and had no idea where they were flying him. He thinks he'll be here tomorrow though. I'm getting so nervous!!! It's like I'm meeting him for the first time all over again. I'm dashing for the phone all the time too. (I'm the type that doesn't answer my phone very often.)
I've got butterflies!!! Thanks for all your well wishes!!! :)

By Karen~admin on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 09:43 am:

I hope you have a wonderful, romantic 2 weeks, and you can bond together as a family again. Take LOTS of pics!

By Emily7 on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 12:46 pm:

By Andi on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 11:40 pm:

How exciting. I'm sure we won't be hearing from you for a couple weeks. LOL I am so happy for you guys.
Enjoy your time together and enjoy him!:)

By Jtsmom on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 09:13 am:

I am so happy for you!! Just don't stress out, he will be so happy to see you and Conner that nothing else wil matter!! Have fun!! Make some memories!!

By Mrsheidi on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 09:34 am:

Ugh. The army never ceases to disappoint. They are re-routing him so that he goes from Qatar, Kuwait, Germany, Atlanta, then Baltimore. He's only in Kuwait now. He had a ticket in hand for a direct flight from Qatar to Baltimore so he was really upset... :(
So, now he's coming in either Sunday or Monday...grrrr...

By Bemerry84 on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 09:46 am:

Oh Heidi, I'm sorry!!!!! My heart just sank for you. That stinks. Does all this travel time cut into the leave or does the leave begin when he gets to the states? Try to have a decent weekend and at least you know he'll be home soon!!!!!
Mary

By Mrsheidi on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:05 am:

Thanks, Mary. His leave begins after he sets foot in Baltimore. He'll have 16 days, thank the Lord! :) I'm just sad because I had planned on having an "us" week before family flies in and it is really cutting into that time. urgh. his family arrives next Friday, the 10th.

By Amecmom on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:37 am:

Heidi, I am so sorry. After everything you've been through to have to delay this ... Is there any way to postpone the arrival of his family? I know with airline tickets it can be hard ...
At least you'll have your time together, soon.
Ame

By Jtsmom on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:59 am:

I am sorry for you also, but don't let it get you down, he will be here soon!!

By Bea on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 11:46 am:

Anticipation is hard, but only makes his getting there more wonderful. ENJOY every second!!!!!

By Bellajoe on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 06:33 pm:

I'm disappointed for you! My computer has been offline all day, and i've just been wanted to check this board to see when your dh was coming home!! :) I know it's disappointing, but just be happy he's coming home soon! :) Have a great time together!

By Conni on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 07:00 pm:

(((BIG HUGS))) Heidi!!

PRaying he has a very safe trip home and he has no mas delays. Also praying his family get's delayed about 10 days.... ;)

Terrible of me, I know!

By Kateg on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:14 pm:

You poor thing. It will all work out. Stay strong & enjoy yourself the next two weeks. Have a spectacular time and savor each moment.

Take care.

By Beth on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:15 am:

That really stinks. But at least the leave doesn't start until he actually touches down. I hope that he is home soon and you all have a great 2 weeks.

By Karen~admin on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:50 am:

I'm so sorry, Heidi.

By Kernkate on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 08:56 am:

{{{HUGS}}} So sorry, but just think its worth the wait ;)

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 10:51 am:

I'm so sorry. {{{HUGS}}}

By Mrsheidi on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 01:15 pm:

Ok, I've actually cleaned out my junk drawer to get my mind off of checking my email and phone every 10 minutes. I haven't heard a n y t h i n g since yesterday morning and I'm going crazy!!!
Scott's mom is coming today, along with her husband, so that should make the time go by faster.
I feel like it's Christmas, only the "real Christmas" was on Friday and Santa is making me WAIT for my present even longer!!
I try not to cry though...I finally broke down last night for a bit, but I'm looking forward to him being out of that country (especially while the Saddam trial is concluding tomorrow) and just HOME!!!! :)

By Tripletmom on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 04:01 pm:

{{{{Prayers}}}} for Scott to come home quickly and you can have your family back.

By Cocoabutter on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 04:08 pm:

Hang in there. ((((((HUGS)))))))
